Wang Hongzhao: First make money as a shop owner, then get rich as a farm owner
In beautiful May, orioles fly and grass grows. Walking into the grain-planting family farm of Wang Hongzhao, a villager of Xiaji Village in Xiaji Town, the boundless wheat fields look especially dazzling under the slanting sunlight. Wang Hongzhao said he has a special bond with the land. Now 50 years old, he has worked in water transport and run a shop. In 2000, when many of his peers went out one after another to build careers and earn big money, he was not only unmoved, but actually worked on his family's thinking, preparing to contract 300 mu of land in Xiangqiao Group of Shuangju Village in his hometown, transforming from a "shop manager" into a "professional farmer." As he managed more and more farmland and the harvests got better and better, Wang Hongzhao became even more determined to grow grain on a large scale.
"What weeds grow in the field," "what hybrid rice looks like when it grows," "when the seedlings need pest prevention"... At the beginning, for Wang Hongzhao, who had never planted grain before, these were indeed problems that urgently needed solving. Although he had only a junior high school education, he was good at using his brain and had to figure out the reasoning behind everything. So, in addition to asking experts at the town agricultural technology station, Wang Hongzhao often "went out" to South Korea and Taiwan, China to consult local professional farmers, and then combined that with experience he summed up himself to choose different planting varieties according to the characteristics of different field plots. He told the reporter that to resist diseases such as fusarium head blight and take-all, Yangfumai No. 4 is more suitable; while Yangmai No. 16 matures early, and its fertilizer tolerance and lodging resistance are average.
Through more than 6 years of development, the field area Wang Hongzhao had in Xiaji Town could no longer meet his planting needs. In 2008, he began contracting land in surrounding counties and towns, expanding by nearly 2,000 mu. The scale grew larger and larger, and the benefits got better and better. In 2012, the central government proposed vigorously cultivating new agricultural business entities such as family farms. Wang Hongzhao thought it over repeatedly and felt this was another rare development opportunity. Subsequently, with the support of various departments, Wang Hongzhao registered "Hongzhao Grain Planting Family Farm" and became a family farm owner. From single-variety planting to promoting good seeds and good methods, he truly achieved increased grain production and increased household income.
Today, the surrounding villagers all believe that Wang Hongzhao has methods and a good head for farming. His promotion and popularization of introducing new grain varieties, spreading agricultural machinery, and using advanced technology have played a leading role in the surrounding area. Under Wang Hongzhao's influence, some farmers around Xiaji Village who had gone out to work returned home to farm and took up large-scale planting. With his demonstration and leadership, there are now nearly 20 villagers growing grain in surrounding counties and towns, and they have all said they owe much to Wang Hongzhao's strong support.
In Wang Hongzhao's agricultural machinery warehouse, the reporter saw 5 large tractors, 3 self-propelled sprayers, 4 rice transplanters... a modern atmosphere rushing toward you. In addition to these, the farm currently has 7 fertilizer spreaders, which can work 50 mu per hour, and can fertilize all the fields in less than a day. Even more distinctive are 3 rice-field fertilizer spreaders made in South Korea, 130,000 yuan each, with a spraying width of 12 m and an operating area of 40 mu per hour. The farm also has laser levelers and pesticide sprayers. After the wheat is harvested, the farm uses laser levelers to level the farmland; the pesticide sprayer can work 500 mu a day.
In addition, the farm also has a mechanized seedling-raising assembly line, harvesters and so on. "At present, the farm has more than 60 large and medium-sized agricultural machines and tools, with a cumulative investment of 3 million yuan," Wang Hongzhao said. These large and medium-sized agricultural machines have won valuable farming time for the farm's production, plant protection and harvesting.
