San Nong Express comprehensive report: It is once again the "three summer" season, and harvest and busyness have become the main theme of "three rural" issues. In recent days, reporters from Shijiazhuang Daily have gone deep into the fields to personally experience the busyness and joy of farmers, the hard work of agricultural technicians and machinery operators, and to uncover new changes this year's "three summer" period in terms of cultivation models, the combination of summer harvest and summer planting with the internet, harvest models, and supply-side reform, while reflecting on the new hopes and challenges that modern agricultural development brings to the broad masses of farmers and agricultural personnel. Starting today, Shijiazhuang Daily launches a series of reports -- "New Observations of the Three Summer Season." Please stay tuned.

"This year I irrigated two fewer times than last year, yet unexpectedly the per-mu yield was more than 200 jin higher than last year. It seems farming really requires science." On the afternoon of June 13, watching golden wheat grains pour rattling from the harvester's grain tank, Bu Jingran of Han Village, Zhao County, was overjoyed.

Bu Jingran's wheat field is part of the hundred-mu demonstration plot of the "one irrigation, thousand catties simplified wheat cultivation technology" implemented by the Municipal Agricultural Technology Extension Center. After on-site actual harvesting and measurement, the "Yingbo 700" variety of wheat planted in the experimental field reached an average per-mu yield of 568.76 kg, breaking through a thousand catties.

Groundwater overexploitation in Hebei Province is severe, and water resource scarcity has already had a serious impact on local social and economic development. Starting from exploring simplified cultivation and water-saving models for wheat production, Shijiazhuang's agricultural technicians used "Yingbo 700" as the test material, applying only a base application of slow-release wheat fertilizer before sowing and one irrigation at the jointing stage, successfully demonstrating the "one irrigation, thousand catties simplified wheat cultivation technology" model. In 2015, the expert group's actual harvest and measurement reached a yield of a thousand catties per mu. This technology provides a scientific basis for Hebei Province to achieve water-saving wheat production, alleviate groundwater depletion, and ensure food production security.

At 15:00, the yield measurement team composed of several wheat experts from within the province arrived at the field edges of Bu Jingran's and Zhou Huailin's homes in Han Village. After the experts measured the area on site and inspected the harvester's grain storage tank, the on-site actual harvesting and measurement officially began. A total of 1.78 mu of wheat from Bu Jingran's home and 1.62 mu from Zhou Huailin's home were harvested on site. An electronic scale measured the gross weight of the harvested wheat, and after deducting the tare weight, the net weight was obtained. Subsequently, specialized instruments were used to test the wheat's moisture content, with experts supervising the entire process. Finally, after strict calculation and review, it was determined that the average per-mu yield of wheat from this actual harvesting and measurement reached 568.76 kg.

"My family has 12 mu of land. Originally, including the winter irrigation, wheat needed three irrigations in total, which came to more than 1,200 yuan. Last year, I saw that Brother Huailin's family planted a good wheat variety, and experts were responsible for the technology, so I also planted 'Yingbo 700.' I only irrigated once, saving nearly 900 yuan. Moreover, not applying additional fertilizer after irrigation also saved quite a bit of money. This year my family's wheat truly used less water, less fertilizer, and still increased yield." Bu Jingran said with a smile.

In recent years, Shijiazhuang's agricultural technicians have been continuously exploring the demonstration and promotion of simplified wheat cultivation technology under the condition of one spring irrigation. After field trials successfully broke through a thousand catties in 2015, a hundred-mu demonstration plot was established in 2016 to continue field observation and comparison of the "one irrigation, thousand catties simplified wheat cultivation technology."

"Water-saving and fertilizer-saving green planting is the main direction of the future revolution in grain cultivation." Li Yuehua, an expert from the Hebei Province Wheat Advisory Group, told reporters, "The 'one irrigation, thousand catties simplified technology' mainly applies five key techniques: selecting drought-resistant and water-saving varieties, sowing when moisture is sufficient with drought stress management, appropriately delaying sowing to increase seeding rate, strong compaction after sowing, and one spring irrigation."

In recent years, Shijiazhuang's agricultural technicians have been exploring how to achieve a scientific and green planting model. The coverage rate of improved wheat varieties in our city has reached 100%, among which the application of water-saving varieties is also increasing year by year. It is understood that this year Shijiazhuang's wheat planting generally adopted a green water-saving model, generally reducing one spring irrigation, and yields still increased somewhat. Through nearly two years of field trials, Shijiazhuang's agricultural technology department has accumulated rich soil and data materials, laying the foundation for the large-scale promotion of the "one irrigation, thousand catties simplified technology" in Shijiazhuang in the future.
