Breeding blazes a new trail out of poverty, farmers see hope of prosperity
Liu Jianxiong, a villager of Erdaogou Village, Dashuikeng Town, Yanchi County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, under the organization of the village Party branch, went to Shandong for on-site inspection, study and observation, and coordination and communication, after which he introduced 50 fine-breed "Sanfen donkeys," and established a specialty breeding base covering more than 3,000 sq m, equipped with forage-mixing rooms and epidemic-prevention rooms and related equipment. This year's income can reach 80,000 yuan, setting an example of shaking off poverty and becoming prosperous for the whole village and greatly boosting the villagers' confidence in breeding their way to prosperity. This is a new attempt by the Party branch and village committee of Erdaogou Village to build a service-oriented Party organization.
Erdaogou Village has a harsh natural environment, with no irrigated land, relying on the weather for its harvest and with weak capacity to resist disasters. The village Party branch, based on local resources, took developing the breeding industry as an important measure for the whole village to shake off poverty and become prosperous, running the modern breeding concept through the entire work of targeted poverty alleviation. Through raising multiple kinds of livestock, it created a typical precedent, providing a strong reference for poor villages across the county to escape poverty and opening an innovative development path of vigorously developing the breeding industry to advance targeted poverty alleviation.
Lu Yuanlin, secretary of the Party branch of Erdaogou Village, told reporters that the weakest link in poor villages is in promoting the development of the village collective economy, which requires leaders to drive farmers to prosperity. Since last year, through the bold exploration of members of the village Party branch and village committee, the village's economic outlook has changed greatly, the village cadres leading the masses have something to strive for, the Party organization's cohesion has been strengthened, and there is no worry that leaders in becoming prosperous cannot be cultivated.
The village committee guides and encourages villagers to broaden breeding channels and adjust the breeding structure. Now, this place has gradually formed a breeding model of raising multiple kinds of livestock, including sheep, pigs, chickens, donkeys and wild rabbits, from a single sheep-raising model. The village strives to secure poverty alleviation project funds and provides special subsidies to 3 households of villagers for building standardized sheep sheds. At present, the whole village has 16 large breeding households and 12 prosperity-leading households. The whole village raises more than 5,000 sheep, 150 pigs, more than 1,200 free-range chickens, more than 50 meat donkeys and more than 1,200 wild rabbits. Li Youji, who raises pigs, has an annual net income of nearly 30,000 yuan, and Yang Wenyou, who raises sheep, has a net income of 50,000 yuan, both achieving poverty alleviation and prosperity through breeding.
Through vigorously developing the cooperative economy, the mode of production and operation has been changed. The village supported and strengthened 3 professional cooperatives and "Yanchi Daxia Agriculture, Forestry and Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd." Through models such as "cooperative + park + farmers" and "cooperative + enterprise + farmers," it has radiated and driven more than 80 farming households, truly organizing small-scale farmers and bringing them together as one, raising the degree of agricultural standardization, scale and marketization, and achieving increased agricultural efficiency and farmers' income. Liwang Breeding Cooperative invested 1.5 million yuan to expand its scale, building a breeding park covering 25 mu, with 35 sheep sheds, 3 silage pits and more than 1,300 animals on hand. Six poor households work long-term in the breeding park, and a total of 160,000 yuan in labor wages is paid out each year.
