Production and Management Techniques for Sanghuang Cultivation Substrate

When it comes to sanghuang, one cannot help but mention the mulberry tree, as sanghuang appears on mulberry trees year after year and can be said to be an indispensable part of the mulberry tree. With the continuous development of society, the value of sanghuang has also been explored and has been applied by medical scientists in pharmacology and medicinal materials. At the same time, people have also begun to cultivate sanghuang on a large scale. However, for those who are not professional enough, sanghuang is not so easy to grow, and one wrong move can waste all the effort. Today, the editor tells you what methods there are for growing sanghuang.

Production of Cultivation Substrate

When preparing the cultivation substrate, first mix cottonseed hulls, sawdust, wheat bran, gypsum powder and other materials evenly. The moisture content of the culture substrate should be 60%-65%; it is best when the material forms a ball if squeezed tightly in the hand and water seems about to drip but does not drip from between the fingers. After the material is mixed, it can be bagged with a bagging machine. For the plastic bags, polypropylene or polyethylene tube bags of 15 cm × 35 cm or 17 cm × 33 cm can be selected, with 400-450 grams of material per bag. Polyethylene bags are sterilized under normal pressure for 10-12 hours, while polypropylene plastic bags are sterilized under high pressure for 2 hours. After the material cools to below 30°C, it is moved into a sterile room for inoculation.

One bottle of cultivation spawn can inoculate 25-35 substrate bags. Move the inoculated spawn bags into a disinfected cultivation room and arrange them in layers, generally 6-8 layers high per row, with walkways left between the racks. Turn them upside down once a week. This serves two purposes: first, it can balance the temperature; second, turning can increase the oxygen inside the bags and make the mycelium grow faster.

Management Techniques

Sanghuang is a thermophilic fungus and requires relatively high temperatures during its growth and development. The optimal temperature for mycelial growth is 24-28°C, and the fruiting bodies grow best between 18-26°C.

Mycelial growth stage: During the mycelial growth period, keep the cultivation room at 22-28°C, with relative air humidity of 50%-60%. Ventilate for half an hour every day, and turn the spawn bags upside down every 5-7 days. When the mycelium has covered 2/3 of the bag, move it into the cultivation shed, loosen the bag opening, and gently lift it by hand, leaving a small gap. Diffused light is suitable in the shed; avoid direct strong light. Generally, after about 25-32 days, the mycelium can fully cover the substrate bag. For individual bags where the mycelium develops unevenly, they can be picked out and placed separately.

The above is the editor's detailed interpretation of sanghuang cultivation from two aspects. Growing any plant is not an easy task, let alone sanghuang, which places great importance on both the environment and subsequent care. It should be known that growing sanghuang is very time-consuming, and rushing for quick success will certainly lead to failure. Finally, the editor would like to mention that finding truly high-quality sanghuang is very difficult, requiring patience and care, because high-quality sanghuang only appears on mulberry trees.
