Unexpected! The profession of farmer is slowly disappearing!
The number of farmers in China is slowly decreasing, and will continue to decrease. Some people may not believe this, thinking that the central government pays more attention to the issues of agriculture, rural areas and farmers year after year, that agriculture will only grow stronger, and that farmers cannot possibly decrease. Actually, this is not the case. The state is developing agriculture, but in recent years what has been advocated is agricultural mechanization and modernization. With the help of machinery, the same area of farmland requires far fewer farmers!
Large-scale operation is the trend of agricultural modernization
The No. 1 Central Document has this passage: "Adhere to taking farmer household operation as the foundation, support new types of agricultural operating entities and new types of agricultural service entities in becoming the backbone force for building modern agriculture, and fully give play to the leading function of various forms of appropriately scaled operation in the application of agricultural machinery and scientific and technological achievements, green development, market development and other aspects." Although the foundation is still household operation, scaled operation, because it facilitates mechanical operation, has high efficiency and low labor costs, and has already shown obvious advantages. If coupled with the support of national policies, scaled operation will certainly gradually develop. While improving planting efficiency, scaled operation also turns large numbers of farmers into operators and migrant workers!

The pace of urbanization is gradually accelerating
China's urbanization process is accelerating year by year, and the urbanization rate has already exceeded 50%. This is a reflection of the country's economic strength and represents the development of our country's social productive forces. But at the same time, it also means that more farmers are entering the cities, villages are decreasing, and the number of farmers is decreasing. In a previous article, the editor mentioned the problem of aging in rural populations, which also shows to some extent that large numbers of young and middle-aged rural people are entering the cities. Along with the rapid process of urbanization, many farmers have gradually changed professions!
Paid withdrawal from homestead land stirs heated discussion
On April 19, 2016, the National Development and Reform Commission stated at a press conference that China will establish a mechanism for voluntary paid withdrawal from homestead land. As soon as this news came out, it immediately aroused widespread heated discussion! This mechanism mainly encourages farmers who work in the cities to withdraw from homestead land with compensation, avoiding the waste of resources caused by idle rural homestead land. But when farmers who have moved to the cities no longer have homestead land, it means they have completely lost the title of "farmer"!
Abolition of agricultural household registration raises farmers' concerns
The policy of "abolishing agricultural household registration" also triggered explosive discussion, but people have many misunderstandings about this policy. Many believe that without agricultural household registration, they will lose rural land and rights, and are therefore very worried. Actually, this is not the case. Abolishing agricultural household registration is only meant to allow farmers to enjoy many benefits of urban residents. They will not lose their houses and land because of it, nor will they be forced to live in the cities. However, whether this policy will play a role in promoting the reduction of farmers is still unknown.
Perhaps in the future, the profession of farmer will completely disappear, replaced by farm operators and laborers. But agriculture will certainly move in the direction of promoting national development. Even if the profession of farmer really disappears, we will still have a better life!
