A look at the latest market and production area trends for grapes
After the Dragon Boat Festival short holiday, summer fresh fruit varieties have become further enriched, and overall fruit market sales prices have declined. Recent feedback from the Henan Wanbang market shows that as temperatures rise, grape varieties and production areas continue to diversify. Grapes currently sold on the market include more than ten varieties such as Kyoho, Pingpong, seedless, pink, green grape, red grape, Golden Finger, Beauty Finger, and Muscat Hamburg, among which local Kyoho grapes have already been listed and are gradually becoming the mainstream variety of grapes on the market; Pingpong and green grapes still mainly come from Hebei; the sales trends for Beauty Finger and Golden Finger are basically the same as last year, still with relatively high prices and relatively low sales volumes.
Recent trends
According to monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture from June 14, 2016 to June 20, 2016 on price declines in the fruit category at agricultural product wholesale markets nationwide, the average price of grapes this week was 9.98 yuan/kg, and the average price last week was 12.35 yuan/kg, a decline of 19.19%.
According to statistics, there are two main reasons for the recent price decline: first, in recent years fruit prices have generally been relatively high, and fruit farmers expanded planting areas, leading grape output to continue growing this year and market supply to be ample; second, some fruit production and sales are disconnected, and this year fruit farmers generally planted earlier and finished sales before summer grapes were listed, resulting in a large concentration in the early listing period.
Transaction data
Entering summer, seasonal fruits are being listed in large quantities, and market demand has been somewhat boosted. According to monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture over the past week (2016.6.13-2016.6.19) on transaction volumes in the fruit category, the weekly transaction volume of grapes reached 2,520.54 tons, with an average daily transaction volume of 360.08 tons.

Through collection and sorting, recent feedback from some production areas is as follows:
- In Raoyang County, Hengshui City, Hebei Province, grapes have matured in large quantities and the market has declined. The recent reference price for Victoria grapes, size 2-3, is 2.5-4 yuan/jin; the recent reference price for Red Seedless grapes, size 2-3, is 1.5-2 yuan/jin.
- Feedback from Yongnian County, Handan City, Hebei Province, shows that local grapes are of good quality and taste excellent. The recent reference price for Red Seedless grapes over 1 jin is 3.5 yuan/jin.
- Feedback from Fei County, Linyi City, Shandong Province, shows that local grapes have now matured, taste good, and are resistant to transport. The recent reference price for Jingya grapes over 1 jin is about 3 yuan/jin.
- In Xinyi City, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, Summer Black has now been listed in large quantities, and the price has declined somewhat compared with the earlier period. The recent reference price for Summer Black grapes, size 1-2 jin, is about 5.5 yuan/jin.
Later trends
Earlier, grape varieties and production areas continued to diversify, but supply of each category was limited, and there were few good goods, while demand was relatively large, and the situation of supply falling short of demand caused prices to rise somewhat; as temperatures continue to rise, while demand is boosted, the maturity of grapes in production areas is also higher, and the phenomenon of concentrated sales in the market is obvious. It is expected that in the short term the overall price of grapes will mainly fluctuate slightly. According to the pattern, it is expected that around August, as various grape varieties are listed in large quantities across regions, the overall price of grapes will show an obvious decline.
