We have even more drive to get rich

One morning not long ago, the village committee office of Hongshila Village in Xinkaidi Township, Keshiketeng Banner was crowded with people. Every villager was beaming with joy and delight, because it turned out that Feng Shichao, the first secretary of Hongshila Village, had delivered free of charge more than 900 chicks and chicken feed worth more than 9,000 yuan to the village's 19 poor households. Shi Yuhua, a poor household member, looked at the chicks chirping as they scrambled for feed and said, "I am so happy today. Thank you, Secretary Feng, for giving us poor households chicks and feed for free, which gives us even more drive to get rich!"

At the beginning of this year, Hongshila Village launched its battle against poverty, with a plan to lift the whole village out of poverty and remove its poor-village designation within two to three years. However, because local villagers mainly relied on growing traditional crops such as potatoes, miscellaneous grains and beans, and on going out to work for a living, their annual per capita income was low, making it quite difficult to escape poverty and shed the designation on schedule. Leaders from the Banner Political and Legal Affairs Commission, which had been paired up to assist the village for many consecutive years, learned through household surveys that villagers had all raised small local chickens in the past and had experience in chicken raising. Secretary Feng discussed the matter with the village "two committees" team and sought the opinions of poor villagers, and finally decided to raise small local chickens to increase poor households' incomes and drive the whole village to escape poverty and become prosperous. Therefore, the leaders of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission mobilized cadres and staff to donate more than 9,000 yuan, purchased chicks and feed, and hired a vehicle to deliver them to the village.

Secretary Feng also told everyone that the chicks distributed free of charge to poor households this time were all finished chicks that had undergone epidemic prevention and had been freed from disease. After taking these chicks home to raise until they were ready for market, he would contact buyers to come collect them. The goal was to first let poor households make money through trial raising and get a taste of the benefits, and then carry out large-scale raising throughout the village, relying on their own capacity to generate momentum and escape poverty, and leading the poor people nearby onto the path out of poverty together.
