Hainan Qiongshan lychee output value exceeds 400 million yuan, becoming an important industry for increasing farmers' income and prosperity
Recently, a reporter learned from the Agriculture and Forestry Bureau of Qiongshan District, Haikou that this year the average purchase price of Qiongshan lychee was 6.5 yuan per jin, the highest unit price in nearly 17 years. Qiongshan lychee output reached 31,600 tons, and the output value reached 410 million yuan, a record high. Lychee cultivation has become a major industry for Qiongshan farmers to increase income and prosper.
Directing workers to pack the last batch of lychees for transport to the purchasing station, Zhou Yongdao, head of the circular agriculture demonstration site in Bannei Village, Yunlong Town, Qiongshan District, Haikou, told reporters cheerfully that although affected by the highly changeable weather at the beginning of the year, under the careful guidance of the agricultural department, this year's lychee harvest was good, and the purchase price reached a record high, making it a double harvest.
The farm in Longlin Village, Sanmenpo Town not only provides restaurant and entertainment services for tourists, but also specially develops lychee-picking activities, receiving an endless stream of tourists coming to pick lychees every day. From May to June, it received over 10,000 visitors. Tang Ji, the person in charge of the farm, said that the added value of lychee picking is higher than simple sales: admission to the orchard for picking is 10 yuan, and taking them away is also 10 yuan per jin, nearly double the sales price, and it also saves the cost of manually picking lychees. More than 400 mu of lychees in the whole village are basically used for picking, with an output value of nearly more than 2 million yuan this year. Lychee picking not only expanded lychee sales channels and increased the added value of lychees, but also enriched the leisure content of rural tourism.
Sanmenpo Hongming Farm is the largest contiguous lychee planting base in the province, with a planting area of 25,000 mu and an output of 15,000 tons. A relevant person in charge of the lychee standardization base said that with the bumper harvest of Qiongshan lychees, the farm workers are overjoyed, and thanks go to the district committee, district government and agricultural department for their careful guidance.
Li Maoshun, director of the Agriculture and Forestry Bureau of Qiongshan District, introduced that the agricultural department mainly guides lychee growers in several aspects including technical services, information services, brand services, insurance services and management and protection services. Starting from the flowering period, the agricultural technology center issues a technical guidance bulletin once a week according to weather conditions, sending it to growers in written form, text messages and other forms, and organizes technicians to go to the field from time to time to guide lychee flowering and fruit setting; distributes organic fertilizer to farmers free of charge, guiding farmers to improve fruit quality. It actively "goes" out to Shandong, Xi'an and other places to connect with purchasers and e-commerce businesses. Xi'an Kegou specially opened a stall for this purpose to sell Qiongshan lychees. In addition, in order to protect farmers' interests, it also acted as a go-between and facilitated the signing of agricultural insurance between the People's Insurance Company of China and growers. Farmers are insured at 200 yuan per mu, and when the unit price is lower than 3.7 yuan per jin, the insurance company pays the claim, giving farmers a "reassurance pill."
Brand building is an important task of the Qiongshan District Government in expanding the lychee industry and enhancing the visibility of Qiongshan lychees. For six consecutive years, the Haikou Lychee Trade Fair has been held in Sanmenpo Town, Qiongshan District, bringing a "butterfly effect" to Qiongshan lychee sales. Every year during the lychee purchasing season, nearly a hundred purchasers and e-commerce businesses from various countries and regions gather in Sanmenpo, this lychee-themed town. The small town is bustling with heavy traffic and extraordinary liveliness. This year, SF Express, the largest private express delivery enterprise in the country, directly set up a logistics point at the production area, and e-commerce businesses such as Alibaba also set up points, providing maximum convenience for lychee sales.
Providing considerate technical guidance to growers, strengthening brand building for enriching farmers, expanding the leisure functions of orchards, and exploring online sales channels, the Qiongshan District Committee and District Government are striding forward on the road of expanding the lychee industry and promoting farmers' income growth.
