The magnificent road of transformation from a poverty-stricken village to a land of kiwifruit

Sanhui Village, Wulong Town, Cangxi County, located 32 km from the county seat of Cangxi County, Guangyuan City, was once a key poverty-stricken village in Cangxi County. Because the land was barren, transportation was backward, the structure of agricultural planting was single, and farmers' incomes were extremely low. But now, the Cangxi County Sanhui Modern Agricultural Park has been established here, and in less than 1 year, the members have already achieved increased income and embarked on the road of escaping poverty and becoming prosperous.

Cangxi County, Guangyuan City, is one of the 88 key counties in our province for poverty alleviation, with 214 poverty-stricken villages and 76,000 poor people. In the past, Sanhui Village, Wulong Town, was the "hard nut to crack" in Cangxi's poverty alleviation work.

But today, the reporter saw a brand-new scene here. In villager Feng Mingwu's breeding farm, more than 100 piglets were jumping around lively in the pigpens. He told the reporter that as the transportation conditions in Sanhui Village gradually improved, selling his live pigs was no longer as difficult as before, when there was no road.

"The original road was a dirt road about three meters wide, and the problem was that it was no good once it rained. When it rained, vehicles could not get in, so we could only ask neighbors to help carry things." Feng Mingwu gave the reporter an example. Around the 20th day of the 12th lunar month in 2014, it happened to be the time when the pigs were ready for market. At that time, the price of live pigs was 6.8, but after it snowed, the road was impassable, so it had to be postponed to the 7th or 8th day of the first lunar month the following year. The price of pigs dropped to 5.5 per jin, and each pig lost more than 200 yuan for nothing.

It turned out that in 2011, Feng Mingwu, who became disabled due to a work injury, returned to his hometown from Zhejiang. At that time, his mother at home was often ill, and even his child's schooling depended on assistance. The family's life was extremely difficult. He tried raising live pigs to improve living conditions, but because Sanhui Village had only dirt roads, feed could not be transported in and pigs could not be sold out. The poor households in the village suffered greatly.

But in the past two years, the transportation problem has been completely solved. Sanhui Village invested 41.86 million yuan to increase the construction of transportation roads and improve infrastructure conditions, realizing the connection of national roads to village roads, village roads to group roads, group roads to household roads, and roads in the park extending in all directions.

"Before the roads here were built, many sellers could not come even if they wanted to buy fruit. Now, our roads extend in all directions, and our kiwifruit usually reaches Chengdu in two or three hours." Now, Feng Mingwu has once again seen hope in life. In addition to investing more than 100,000 yuan saved from working elsewhere to build a live pig breeding farm of more than 500 sq m, with 243 live pigs sold and a profit of 380,000 yuan. At the same time, he also contracted more than 80 mu of uncultivated land and planted kiwifruit. Last year, he produced more than 6,000 jin of red-fleshed kiwifruit, with an output value of 60,000 yuan. From contracting the land until now, kiwifruit income has reached 120,000 yuan.

"We call this road the road to moderate prosperity and the road to escaping poverty. The industry has developed. Our village has developed more than 2,000 mu of kiwifruit, rural tourism has developed, and the living environment has improved." An Zhongnian, deputy secretary of the Cangxi County Party Committee, told the reporter with emotion that the improved road network system has opened up the "blood vessel channel" for poor people to escape poverty and strive for prosperity, and Cangxi's future development will surely get better and better.
