Order-based duck farming puts farmer Yao Mingzhang of Liping County on the road to prosperity
Yao Mingzhang, a farmer from Deguo Village, Qifan Village, Long'e Town, Liping County, relied on the duck-raising skills and experience he gained while working away from home to invest in building a duck farm by the Nanjiang River, and through order-based duck farming he has forged a new path to prosperity.
Yao Mingzhang is a poor household in Group 2 of Deguo Village. Before 2012, he worked in Yinjiao Village, Sihui City, Guangdong, doing duck-raising work. Over several years, he mastered a complete set of duck-raising techniques. After returning home, he set up a duck farm at the shooting range in Liping County town. He thought that working away from home and running a farm in another place was not a long-term solution, and that only by relying on the techniques he had mastered to develop a duck-raising industry locally could he escape poverty. So he gave up the farm in the city and returned to his own village to raise ducks. This year, Yao Mingzhang invested a total of 120,000 yuan, built 3 duck sheds, purchased breeding equipment, and for the first time bought 2,000 Beijing ducklings, making full use of the water resources of Baiyan Reservoir by the Nanjiang River for a new type of net-enclosed farming. At the same time, he broadened his sales channels and personally arranged with a boss in Sihui, Guangdong for door-to-door bulk sales by order at 6 yuan/jin.
Yao Mingzhang used abundant farming information, years of technical farming experience and good customer relationships to raise Beijing ducks by the Nanjiang River, forming a scale and achieving returns. "This year I invested 120,000 yuan, built 3 new duck sheds, with a farming area of 400 sq m, and have now bought 2,000 Beijing ducklings, using a new type of raised-net farming. This year I expect three batches of meat ducks to be sent to market: one batch of 1,000 before the flood season, one batch of 1,000 after the flood season, and one batch in winter, with an annual output of about 3,000, and annual income reaching more than 200,000 yuan, recovering the investment in the same year," Yao Mingzhang said cheerfully.
Influenced by the prosperity effect of Yao Mingzhang, more and more villagers in his village and nearby villages also developed the duck-raising industry. For this reason, the village organized and established a farming professional cooperative, giving the people engaged in farming a better development environment and helping more and more people become prosperous.
