Suqian City, Jiangsu: Baohua Cooperative Strengthens Fenpi Production and Sales

“As long as a customer clicks their mouse, we will deliver to their door or ship by logistics.” said Lu Baohua, head of the Baohua Fenpi Cooperative in Luji Town, Suyu District, Suqian City, Jiangsu Province. Through business methods such as door-to-door delivery and online sales, brand fenpi such as “Baohua” quickly gained market recognition, with customers even in places like Guangdong and Hainan.

Luji Town has more than 2,000 farmers engaged in fenpi processing, with an annual production scale of more than 90 tons. In order to expand sales channels and improve processing efficiency, Lu Baohua joined with 4 brokers in 2012 to establish the Baohua Fenpi Cooperative, carrying out unified purchasing, packaging, and online and offline operations of fenpi. Afterward, through active technical improvements, the cooperative obtained a green food certificate and successively successfully registered two trademarks, “Baohua” and “Lushi.”

The cooperative formulated a production management “six unifications” operating model, namely unified base planning, unified brand identity, unified material warehousing, unified processing technology, unified equipment standards, and unified packaging and sales. After more than two years of operation, the quality of fenpi products was rapidly improved.

In order to attract processing households to join, the cooperative established that, in addition to enjoying various services, members could also receive a secondary rebate. In the cooperative's financial books, the surplus return to each member is clearly recorded. Last year, the cooperative returned more than 300,000 yuan in surplus, with the largest household receiving a rebate of 18,000 yuan. At present, the cooperative's products have grown to 4 varieties, with 43 member households, more than 170 employees, and per capita income of 62,500 yuan.
