King Kong black tiger shrimp farming: maximum gross profit per mu exceeds 60,000 yuan

African black tiger shrimp, also known as King Kong black tiger shrimp, black tiger king, grass shrimp king, etc. In order to explore some technical issues in the farming production of this species, Xu Chengtuan of the Xuwen County Aquatic Technology Promotion Station in Guangdong Province and Fang Liangzhi of Hainan Nanjiang Biotechnology Co., Ltd. conducted experimental farming over two years and 4 crops from 2014 to 2015, and found that the average gross profit of King Kong black tiger shrimp was 34,000 yuan/mu, with the highest gross profit exceeding 60,000 yuan/mu. The following is the experimental report.

African black tiger shrimp, also known as King Kong black tiger shrimp, black tiger king, grass shrimp king, etc., has parent stock originating from wild black tiger shrimp from Africa. Compared with the black tiger shrimp currently farmed domestically, its body color is darker, its carapace is thicker and more substantial, its body is long and laterally compressed, slightly fusiform, and its body color is bright; the most suitable water temperature is 25-32°C, feeding decreases significantly below 20°C, and it freezes to death below 13°C; it is euryhaline, adapting to a salinity range of 5-30‰, with 15-25‰ being most suitable, and growth is relatively faster at low salinity; it is omnivorous and does not require high protein in the feed; it has strong tolerance to drying and low oxygen; it is most suitable for farming in ponds with muddy-sandy bottoms, showing characteristics of strong adaptability, relatively fast growth, uniform individual size, and strong disease resistance. In order to explore some technical issues in the farming production of this species, after two years and 4 crops of experimental farming from 2014 to 2015, we achieved good farming results and economic benefits. The farming technical experience is now summarized below for discussion with peers:

I. Experimental conditions and methods

1. Shrimp pond conditions

The experimental shrimp ponds were high-level ponds at the Xingang base of Hainan Nanjiang Biotechnology Co., Ltd. The shrimp ponds had sandy bottoms, cement slopes, a pond depth of 2 m, a water intake depth of 1.6 m, 60 ponds, an area of 2-6 mu/pond, totaling 280 mu; the sea area water quality was good, and the water source was sufficient; there were freshwater sources and a secondary sand filtration reservoir (filter pipes buried in the reservoir and covered with more than 50 cm of sand for secondary filtration); there was a central sewage discharge system, and each pond was equipped with 4-8 paddlewheel aerators.

2. Preparatory work before stocking

1.5 months before stocking shrimp fry, drain the pond water, wash the pond with a high-pressure water gun, close the gates and dry the pond until the pond bottom cracks, use 50-100 kg of quicklime per mu, distribute it over the pond bottom, then plow and harrow the pond bottom for tilling and sun exposure. 2 weeks before stocking, fill with 20 cm of water, then use 20 kg/mu of bleaching powder to disinfect the pond bottom, pond walls, aerators, feed trays, leakage nets, and other farming equipment. After 24 hours, drain the water and fill to 1.2 m, then use 2 kg/mu of trichloroisocyanuric acid to disinfect the water body. After 20 hours, choose a sunny morning and use 1 kg/mu of sodium thiosulfate for detoxification. After 4 hours, check that there is no residual chlorine, then apply live bacteria (Nuo Bi Qing water purifying agent 80 g/mu) as a base, and the next day continue fertilizing: dolomite powder 15 kg/mu; water-fertilizing EM bacteria 5 kg/mu; water-fertilizing lisu sheng 2 kg/mu + brown sugar 0.5 kg/mu (activated for 12-24 hours); bio-organic fertilizer 5 kg/mu. If conditions permit, inoculate oocystis algae or chlorella and other green algae for targeted culture. After fertilizing, frequently observe the pond water color, plankton biomass, and transparency to judge whether to apply additional fertilizer, ensuring the pond has abundant basic feed organisms, because it directly affects the growth speed and survival rate of shrimp fry. The best pond water is light brown with a transparency of 50-30 cm. 3 days before stocking, prepare fermented feed (lactic acid bacteria + brown sugar + 0# feed fermentation), and before stocking test the water quality indicators of the stocking pond and conduct a trial water test for the shrimp fry.

3. Shrimp fry selection

The shrimp fry were selected from King Kong black tiger shrimp fry of Hainan Nanjiang Company. The shrimp fry are required to be uniform in individual size, robust and vigorous, good at swimming against the current, with a clean body surface and no attachments, body length above 0.9 cm, and upon virus and Vibrio testing, must not carry several specific pathogens such as WSSV, TSV, IHHNV, and IMNV, with Vibrio counts within a safe range.
