Returning home to start a livestock business: a disabled farmer who refuses to give up
He is disabled in the lower limbs and was once penniless. To make a living, he traveled far and wide in a hand-cranked cart, begging for food and selling balloons. Later he returned to his hometown and started raising pheasants and pigeons, realizing his own value with the help of kindhearted people. The day before yesterday, at Wang Mujie's farm in Gangwang Village, Gangwang Town, Zhecheng County, the reporter interviewed this man with a disabled body but a strong will.
Wang Mujie currently has two farms, one for breeding pigeons and one for raising seven-colored pheasants. Pheasants must be raised with males and females separated. In the pheasant farm, green vegetables and corn grits are laid out, and this is the "home-cooked meal" for several thousand pheasants. Wang Mujie's breeding pigeon farm currently has more than 7,000 pigeons. Entering the farm, one adorable squab after another also catches the eye.
One of Wang Mujie's farms is in a large grove, and it is bustling every day. His neighbors Wang Huiguang, Wang Jianchao, Wang Huidong and others come here every day to help and take care of the farm. When an Evening News reporter interviewed his neighbors, Wang Mujie came over on crutches: "If it weren't for these good neighbors of mine, I could never have gotten this (farming) going on my own."
This also has to start with Wang Mujie's life story. Now 48 years old, Wang Mujie dropped out of school before finishing primary school. When he was a child, rheumatism caused a disability in his legs, and he traveled back and forth for more than ten years seeking treatment. His disability certificate shows "second-degree physical disability." Because of his physical disability, he could not do normal manual labor, and struggling to make a living, the young Wang Mujie traveled around in a hand-cranked cart, begging for food and selling balloons. In February 20 years ago, he set out for Jilin alone, only arriving in August of that year, supporting himself along the way by selling balloons, and people who knew his situation also offered help one after another.
"The hardships I suffered before are impossible to describe, but I am a relatively optimistic person, and those special experiences also tempered my will." Wang Mujie smiled.
Wang Mujie's farming actually began 3 years ago. Once, he picked up a few wild eggs in a crop field, and after going back he used a domestic hen to hatch the wild eggs into chicks. In this way, the wild pheasants at home grew more and more numerous.
"I invested more than 100,000 yuan, all of it raised with the help of relatives and neighbors... At first, raising some wild pheasants was just to feed the relatives and neighbors who had helped me. Later there were more and more pheasants, too many to eat, so I thought of starting a farming business." Wang Mujie said, "I feel that as a disabled person, you have to dare to think and dare to act, do things others don't dare to do, and set an example to prove 'I can do it'!"
At present, a pair of pheasants raised by Wang Mujie can bring in several dozen yuan a year, and a pair of breeding pigeons brings in more than 100 yuan a year. Besides being sold in large quantities to restaurants in surrounding counties and townships, some of his pheasants and breeding pigeons are also sold to Zhuhai. "Pheasants are sold in pairs, and I can sell several hundred pairs at a time. I feel that as everyone's living standards improve, this kind of game will become more and more popular with ordinary people, and sales will keep growing. I want to strive for more sales channels and expand the scale of my farming." Wang Mujie said.
