Yang Li, a tough woman, finds her way to prosperity through farming

Yang Li, female, born in 1970, a Party member, of medium build and quick-witted, has achieved stunning results in the livestock farming industry through sheer tenacity and a never-give-up spirit.

After years of hard work, the farm she runs has grown to have more than 90 sows and an annual output of 1,500 fattened pigs, making her a shining star among the company's workers for achieving prosperity through science and technology and diversifying income.

In 2001, when the higher-level Party committee called on workers to develop livestock farming, she scraped together some money by borrowing from here and there, built a few pig pens, bought a few sows, and began raising pigs. She overcame one difficulty after another, rising early and working late every day, throwing herself wholeheartedly into pig farming. She also sought out many books on pig farming techniques, learning while doing, gradually figuring out the living habits of pigs and grasping their growth characteristics. How to mix feed, how to prevent diseases, how to breed piglets - she humbly consulted professional pig farming technicians and veterinarians on all of it, gradually accumulating rich experience. She firmly believed that as long as she was not afraid of hardship and flexibly applied the scientific pig farming experience and techniques she had learned, she would certainly be able to accomplish something great in livestock farming.

In order to make her farming business bigger and stronger, she introduced advanced equipment - window screens, automatic waterers, sow farrowing rooms, drainage and waste removal systems, and so on, all fully equipped. Thanks to her diligent study and careful care, for several consecutive years her annual output of fattened pigs reached more than 2,000, and her annual net income reached more than 250,000 yuan. Today she lives in a multi-story building, drives a car, and enjoys a moderately prosperous life.

After Yang Li achieved prosperity through pig farming by her own hard work, she always kept in mind the saying: "One family being rich does not count as rich; only when everyone is rich is it true wealth."

As a Party member, she wanted even more to do what she could for everyone. Having built her success on pig farming, she gave special care to new farming households in the company. She taught - she shared her farming experience with them without reservation. Whenever a household's pigs had diarrhea, refused to eat, or would not grow, she would sometimes patiently and proactively visit them to "diagnose" the problem and prescribe the right remedy. There are many kinds of pig feed on the market, of varying quality, so she would first experiment on her own pigs, select the good feed varieties from among them, and then promote them to the farming households. The new farming households in the company trusted her completely. In order to pass on the pig farming techniques and experience she had accumulated over many years to other farming households, she never missed any opportunity to chat with workers, explaining scientific pig farming techniques. Whenever the company Party branch held farming technique training classes, she was always among those invited. The workers all said they loved listening to her special lectures on pig farming - easy to understand and very practical.

Yang Li is also a warm-hearted person. No matter whose family in the company wanted to raise pigs, she would lend a hand. When company worker Liang Yumei wanted to raise pigs to get rich, Yang Li proactively helped her upon learning of it, letting her build pens and purchase equipment, and even gave her 20 piglets and feed on credit for her to raise. Over the following year or more, Yang Li became a frequent visitor to Liang Yumei's home. She often visited to teach Liang Yumei hand by hand how to immunize pigs, how to administer medicine to sick pigs, and so on. At the end of the year, she used her advantages of broad sales channels and wide information networks to help her open up sales. In the first few years of Liang Yumei's farming operation, if she was short of funds for buying feed or equipment, Yang Li would advance the money for her upon learning of it. Today, after nearly ten years of painstaking operation, Liang Yumei has also become a farming household of modest scale.

Whenever workers who had once been helped by Yang Li mention the past assistance, their eyes are full of gratitude, and they all say the same thing: Yang Li is truly a warm-hearted and good person!

In this year's "Two Studies, One Action" learning and education campaign, Comrade Yang Li did not use being busy with the farm as an excuse to skip studying. Instead, she often proactively came to the unit to participate in study, discussion and other activities. She not only studied and copied the Party Constitution and Party regulations, but also wrote reflections. In her words: only by listening to the Party and following the Party can our lives get better and better.
