On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Party, the Central Committee and the Provincial Party Committee each commended a group of outstanding Communist Party members, outstanding Party affairs workers and advanced grassroots Party organizations. The outstanding individuals and advanced collectives commended in our province are outstanding representatives emerging from all fronts across the province. In the depths of midsummer, at the Huanghuatan relocation settlement site in Gulang County, a medium-height, lean and capable "farmer" drives through the various new immigrant villages, going in and out of solar greenhouses and warm livestock sheds, guiding the villagers in vegetable planting and cattle and sheep breeding. Before he had even taken a sip of the clear tea the villagers had brewed, his phone rang, and he hurried off again to another settlement site.
This middle-aged man is Hu Zhongshan, 54 years old this year, Party Committee Secretary of the Huanghuatan Ecological Migration Follow-up Industry Professional Cooperative in Gulang County. This year on "July 1," he was awarded the honorary title of National Outstanding Communist Party Member. For many years, Hu Zhongshan has faithfully fulfilled the sacred duty of serving the people, and with his own practical actions has helped the people of one region shake off poverty and become prosperous.
Bravely serving as a leader in getting rich
"The mountains are like a monk's bald head, with gullies but no flowing water. A drop of water is as precious as oil, and spring sowing yields no autumn harvest." This was a true portrayal of Jiashanling Village in Jingquan Township, where Hu Zhongshan lived sixteen years ago. Unwilling to live a hard life for a lifetime, Hu Zhongshan investigated extensively, thinking of breaking a bright path through developing large-scale breeding.
In early 2011, Hu Zhongshan took out all his savings and founded the Huanghuatan Zhongxing Breeding Sheep Farm. He learned while doing and did while learning, achieving completion and returns in the same year, and he also mastered breeding techniques and accumulated management experience. Through continuous effort, Hu Zhongshan's warm breeding sheds increased year by year, and he also gained a decent income from them.
From Hu Zhongshan, the villagers saw hope for shaking off poverty and becoming prosperous. Thus, his more than 400 breeding sheep became the foundation for the whole village's people to develop large-scale sheep raising.
Farmer Zhang Junhe of the Qiaotou Group in Huanghuatan Village clearly remembers that with Hu Zhongshan's help back then, he built a warm breeding shed, and in just 3 years he had savings of more than 100,000 yuan.
"Break a path to prosperity for the masses, help the masses get rich quickly." Under Hu Zhongshan's genuine help and practical support and demonstration-driven leadership, more than 600 farming households in Jiashanling Village began to develop the breeding industry, built more than 2,200 warm sheds, kept more than 60,000 sheep on hand, earned an annual income of more than 20 million yuan, and achieved a per capita income of more than 3,000 yuan.
Gladly serving as a servant of the masses
Since 2010, in order to thoroughly change the poor production and living conditions of farmers in the cold, shaded high-mountain areas, Wuwei City implemented the "descend the mountains and enter the plains" migration and relocation project. Huanghuatan became the main battlefield of this project.
In order to achieve the goal of "build sheds, plant trees, earn money, build houses, and live a good life," Gulang County established the Huanghuatan Ecological Migration Follow-up Industry Professional Cooperative. With his advantages of having technical skills, understanding management and knowing how to operate, Hu Zhongshan was appointed Party Committee Secretary of the professional cooperative. From then on, wherever there were difficulties and wherever there was need, there he was.
At the end of February this year, Gulang experienced unusually severe cold weather rarely seen in many years. In the 135 newly built solar greenhouses in Weimin New Village and Gan'en New Village in Xijing Town, tomato seedlings had just broken through the soil. If the seedlings were frozen and damaged, what would be harmed would not only be the vegetables in the sheds, but also the hearts of the people. At dusk just as the severe cold struck, Hu Zhongshan, who had been busy all day, ignored his exhaustion and had no time to rest; he went from door to door helping the villagers light fires to drive off the cold, but the heating effect was not good. At this urgent moment, Hu Zhongshan discussed with the cadres, contacted merchants, and urgently brought in 135 cast-iron stoves, distributing them to the villagers shed by shed. Finally, the seedlings were saved, and Hu Zhongshan's heart was set at ease.
Over the years, exactly how many households have received Hu Zhongshan's help, even he himself cannot say clearly, but the rows of newly rising solar greenhouses and warm livestock sheds on Huanghuatan, as well as the lush green jujube forest, are the best testimony to his dedication.
Bravely acting as an innovator and practitioner
As a farmer, Hu Zhongshan upholds the true qualities of diligence and simplicity; as a Party member, Hu Zhongshan adheres to the concept of pioneering and innovation. In his view, starting a business requires hard struggle, while development requires continuous innovation.
"Party building leads, leading enterprises drive, production and sales connect, and development is carried out in groups" is Hu Zhongshan's innovative concept in production and operation as Party Committee Secretary of the industry cooperative. According to this concept, the cooperative established an operating mechanism of resource sharing, complementary advantages, interactive production and shared risks. In this way, it led 32 farmers' professional cooperatives and drove 2,686 farming households to increase income in production and operation.
"Party member demonstration sheds" and "Party member demonstration forests" are innovative products of Hu Zhongshan and the industry cooperative Party Committee in promoting the main production model. Fan Xionghui, a farmer Party member of the Qiaotou Group in Huanghuatan Village, built a "Party member demonstration shed," raised more than 1,000 sheep, and drove 423 farming households in the whole village to build 2,768 warm breeding sheds.
Today, walking along the broad and flat Golden Avenue into the Huanghuatan settlement site, most of the solar greenhouses and warm livestock sheds with the best returns are "Party member demonstration sheds"; the most vigorously growing economic forests are often also "Party member demonstration forests." It is precisely because the Party branch was built on the industrial chain, Party member responsibility areas were divided, and Party member demonstration posts were established that the fighting fortress and vanguard role of Party organizations and Party members has been fully brought into play on this stretch of green fields.
