Mushroom cultivation has promising prospects, and small mushrooms bring new hope
“A single edible mushroom greenhouse requires an investment of about 75,000 yuan, with harvests in both spring and autumn. The annual output can reach 12,000 jin, and the selling price is 2.5 yuan to 3.5 yuan per jin. Calculated this way, the annual income can be around 40,000 yuan, and the cost can be recovered in less than two years, which is much better than working away from home.” Recently, a reporter walked into the button mushroom greenhouse contracted by Fang Wei in Neiwang Village, Yincheng Town, Changzhi County. He was busy at work, sorting the mature button mushrooms by size for storage and then handing them over to the village cooperative for unified sales.
As living standards continue to improve, ingredients on citizens' dining tables are becoming increasingly rich. Button mushrooms are deeply loved by citizens because they are rich in mannose, trehalose and various amino acids. It is precisely because they have seen the good sales prospects of button mushrooms that many villagers, like Fang Wei, plan to contract greenhouses to grow button mushrooms. After visiting Shouguang in Shandong and other places for observation and study, 14 button mushroom greenhouses were built in the village. By the end of the year, the average net income per greenhouse reached more than 20,000 yuan, basically achieving the goal of building greenhouses and generating returns in the same year. Fang Wei said that when he saw the first batch of button mushrooms mature, he could not describe how happy he was. Generally, autumn mushrooms have a higher yield than spring mushrooms. About 200 baskets, roughly 2,000 jin, can be produced each day. The standard size of button mushrooms is 3 to 5 cm, and sales are quite brisk.
Since last year, Changzhi County, relying on farmers' cooperatives, has promoted household cultivation of button mushrooms throughout the county, increased financial subsidies for farmers building or renovating edible mushroom greenhouses, and strengthened cooperation with research institutes and colleges and universities to carry out high-yield cultivation technology research, new resource development, transformation of scientific and technological achievements and product research and development, and to train spawn production personnel, scientific research service personnel and farmer technical backbones in stages and batches. At present, the button mushroom industry has developed into the leading industry for farmers in the southern mountainous areas of the county to escape poverty and become prosperous.
At the same time, Changzhi County has also built an edible mushroom industrial park integrating edible mushroom spawn cultivation, mushroom substrate bag production, factory-scale warm greenhouse cultivation, and processing and sales. On the basis of growing button mushrooms, it conducts experimental cultivation of new mushroom varieties such as king oyster mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, black mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms, further broadening the channels for farmers to increase income.
