Family farms create a path to prosperity

Nowadays, an upsurge of entrepreneurship has also been set off in rural areas. Many farmers rely on their own technical expertise to establish cooperatives, family farms, and so on, and have begun living a moderately prosperous life. Liu Wenzhong from Zhenjiao Village, Guojiadian Town, Lishu County, Jilin Province, is one of them.

Although Old Liu is already 51 years old, he is still very driven and passionate, and his Kexin Family Farm in Lishu County is run with great vigor. Liu Wenzhong's family farm is mainly engaged in planting and now has more than 20 hectares of land. “There is still some work in the fields; I just finished and came back.” Only after 8 p.m. did Liu Wenzhong walk into his home. After washing up, he sat down at the dining table and began to eat. “The work in the fields cannot be delayed; you have to seize the time, or it will not wait for you.” Liu Wenzhong said with considerable feeling.

Liu Wenzhong's family originally had 10 hectares of land. After deciding to go into this line of work, he began contracting other farmers' land, and the amount of land has now reached more than 20 hectares. In order to work more efficiently, Liu Wenzhong bought a rotary tiller and other types of small machinery. Mainly, several people in the family work together on this family farm.

The farm mainly grows corn, and also plants a small amount of soybeans. When the autumn harvest season comes, Liu Wenzhong harvests the corn, gives it simple processing, and then sells it. Liu Wenzhong sells all his corn to the grain depot. He hires a vehicle himself to haul the corn to the Guojiadian Town grain depot for sale, and his annual income is close to 100,000 yuan. “Last year the conditions were not good, and corn prices were somewhat low, so the money from selling corn was not as much as in previous years.” Liu Wenzhong said.

Although he has already reached the age of knowing the mandate of heaven, Liu Wenzhong has not retreated when it comes to future development. He is determined to make his family farm bigger. “Right now it is more than 20 hectares, and I plan to develop it to 100 hectares. When I have funds on hand, I will buy another harvester to make the family farm more large-scale.” Liu Wenzhong said.
