Xia Xiumei, a Woman Skilled at Making Money, Finds Her Way to Wealth Through Pig Farming in Chengjiao Township, Bei'an City, Heilongjiang

Xia Xiumei, 41 years old this year, is an ordinary farmer from Xinwei Village, Yongqing Village, Chengjiao Township, Bei'an City. Through her own hard work and effort, she successfully carved out a path to wealth and became a locally renowned "woman skilled at making money."

Nine years ago, Xia Xiumei was still a migrant worker, helping relatives raise pigs in Tianjin, and could not save much money over the course of a year. To make her family's life more prosperous, Xia Xiumei boldly returned to her hometown to start a business and try pig farming. At first, due to a lack of scientific breeding techniques and little experience, her pig farming income was low, and she once entertained the thought of giving up pig farming. Later, Xia Xiumei bought books and diligently studied scientific pig-raising knowledge. Sometimes she stood beside the pigpen for several hours in a row, observing the pigs' living habits. Her breeding operation grew from just two or three pigs at the very beginning to more than 200 head on hand per year at present, and the scale of raising pigs gradually expanded. Because she was smart and capable, Xia Xiumei's path in pig farming went fairly smoothly. While working for others, Xia Xiumei learned how to vaccinate pigs, so she could completely solve disease prevention issues on her own; moreover, she processed feed herself, and the piglets she raised had a high survival rate and were quick to reach market weight. Over the course of a year, her income could reach more than 70,000 yuan.
