Yongxin County turns barren hills into an ecological farm
“I originally contracted an ecological farm, and seeing that oil tea has good economic returns, I transferred 1,100 mu of mountain land in Gaoxi Township through the Ji'an Land Transfer Center of Tuliu.com to plant oil tea.” Since the beginning of this year, Luo Wenguo, a returning entrepreneur from Yongxin County, Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, has often been running back and forth between two places. “Sometimes I really run myself dizzy, but as long as there is output, it is worth it.”
During this year's Dragon Boat Festival mini-holiday, tourists visiting Hongfengzhou Ecological Manor for leisure vacations came in an endless stream, which made He Sanli, a villager from Sanwan Township in Yongxin and the founder of the manor, extremely happy. Land transfer has turned the once neglected barren hills and wasteland into this somewhat well-known green ecological farm.
These are just a microcosm of how Yongxin County is accelerating the transformation of its economic development model through comprehensive mountain land development. The landform characteristic of “seven parts mountain, one part water, half a part farmland, and half a part roads and manors” has prompted Yongxin to use the effective space of hills and fields, expanding the framework for ecological agriculture development in both vertical and horizontal directions, with focus on developing the “four ten-million” projects of Jinggang honey pomelo, green vegetables, mulberry planting and silkworm rearing, and rare nanmu, as well as characteristic advantageous industries such as high-yield oil tea.
In accordance with the principles of “lawful, voluntary, and compensated,” the county guides and encourages the transfer of mountain land and cultivated land resources to new types of operating entities such as family farms through forms including leasing, subcontracting, exchange, and shareholding, so as to develop large-scale and efficient ecological agriculture; at the same time, it issues preferential policies and establishes various industrial development agencies such as the fruit industry office, oil tea office, and sericulture office, providing support in projects, funds, seedlings, technology, and information.
“Planting oil tea is subsidized at 500 yuan per mu, and planting pomelo is subsidized at 300 yuan per mu.” The person in charge of the Ji'an Land Transfer Center of Tuliu.com said that whether people looking for land within Ji'an City or people from elsewhere wanting to lease land, they all pay considerable attention to preferential policies such as subsidies. These preferential policies have played a positive role in attracting investment and cultivating local new agricultural operating entities.
At present, Yongxin County has developed 104,000 mu of green vegetables, with more than 180 large growers; 41,000 mu of mulberry fields, with annual silkworm rearing reaching more than 50,000 sheets, and more than 380 large sericulture households; 41,000 mu of Jinggang honey pomelo, with more than 110 large growers; and 40,000 mu of rare nanmu, with more than 210 large forestry growers.
