Wenshan, Yunnan: Tiny Brazil mushrooms broaden the path out of poverty toward prosperity

Developing specialty industries to escape poverty is a realistic path to achieving “long-term poverty alleviation.” Since the beginning of this year, Pingba Town has taken measures suited to local conditions to advance industrial poverty alleviation, actively guiding the people, especially registered poor households, by introducing trial cultivation of Brazil mushrooms. Through the “company + base + cooperative + farmer” development model, it implements order-based cooperation to fully drive long-term income growth and poverty alleviation for poor people.

In 2016, the town built a total of 199 Brazil mushroom greenhouses, with a planting area of 123720 sq m, involving 7 village committees, 14 villager groups and 111 farming households, of which 18 households were registered poor households, and 28 mushroom greenhouses were built. Based on each greenhouse producing about 5 tons of fresh mushrooms per year and a floor price of 8 yuan per kg, the annual output value can reach 7.96 million yuan, and the town's 199 greenhouses are expected to help farmers increase their income by 3.98 million yuan each year.
