Center household head Ye Maolin leads villagers to cultivate the mountains and grow rich

Relying on the east wind of reform and opening up and the Party's policies to enrich the people, the many ornamental tree growers of Mizhong Village, under the leadership and eager help of center household head Ye Maolin, used their own hardworking and wise hands to forge one green money box after another. This is a true portrayal of the villagers of Mizhong Village starting businesses by cultivating the mountains, developing the forestry economy, and heading toward moderate prosperity.
As early as more than 10 years ago, the villagers of Mizhong Village relied on their own mountain and forest advantages to actively develop forestry production such as nurseries and ornamental trees. By now they have formed a nursery and ornamental tree base with one-stop services in production, supply, and sales. Through the intensive development of the forestry industry, the villagers have tasted the sweetness of the new changes brought to them by reform and opening up and the Party's policies to enrich the people. Mizhong Village has a total population of 1,249 people. In 2015, the village's per capita income was more than 12,500 yuan, far higher than the average level of the whole town and even Fangcheng District. Among this, the net income from selling seedlings and ornamental trees was more than 3 million yuan, and per capita forestry income increased by more than 2,800 yuan.
Center household head Ye Maolin is from Dengzeng Group of Mizhong Village. Since 2004, he has persisted in cultivating nurseries, planting and selling ornamental trees in his own village, and has led villagers to plant ornamental trees in large quantities, develop a green economy, and guide villagers to escape poverty and become prosperous. Because of his outstanding achievements, in September 2007 he was awarded the honorable title of "National Green Moderately Prosperous Household" by the leading group of the national "Create Green Homes, Build Prosperous New Villages" action. Ye Maolin also obtained substantial income from cultivating the mountains, with his average annual income above 100,000 yuan, including 300,000 yuan in 2015.
As a family planning association center household head, Ye Maolin did not forget his fellow villagers after growing rich. His home became a think tank for family planning association members and the masses to build wealth. Whatever opportunities or information there were, the masses could obtain them from him and achieve practical results through practice. Whenever a new tree species was cultivated or whatever seedlings the market needed, he would convene the village's growers at his home for analysis and study. Collecting materials, contacting information, and using the "strategizing" of the family think tank and technical training have become his daily work, and they implement the planting development plans of each stage step by step. Over the past more than 10 years, this think tank has provided planting technical guidance and training to local people more than 1,500 person-times, contacted and negotiated business 360 times, and sold ornamental tree seedlings in 80 batches.
Ye Maolin actively implements the "Green Wealth-Building Assistance Plan" action in his village. He selflessly teaches his seedling cultivation techniques to his neighbors and fellow villagers, and for impoverished people he also provides free seedlings for planting, supporting villagers in building wealth.
Under Ye Maolin's support and leadership, all the villagers' enthusiasm for operating seedling cultivation has run high. Apart from planting part of the farmland with rice and the existing economic forest trees, the slopes, field corners, and mountains are all seedling bases. At present, the whole village has more than 1,800 mu of ornamental tree seedling bases. Nurseries and ornamental trees will be the leading industry for all villagers' income and their march toward moderate prosperity.
In helping villagers sell seedlings, Ye Maolin is not afraid of trouble and manages carefully. In 2012, the income from ornamental trees sold through his hands alone was more than 4 million yuan. In order to prevent counterfeit money from being distributed to the masses, he bought a money detector. According to village Party branch secretary Zheng Chuanhu, in 2012, the money Mizhong Village obtained from selling ornamental trees was sometimes several hundred thousand and sometimes more than a million. Mentioning the heavy money bags, every villager showed a smile. "In the village, wherever I go, or after work, or on rainy days, the growers all invite me to their homes as a guest, to drink a cup or two of 'local Moutai' brewed by the farmers themselves, and to share with the villagers the joy of cultivating the mountains," Ye Maolin said.
