A Post-90s College Graduate from Gansu Returns Home to Start a Business, Sika Deer Farming Fulfills the Dream of Getting Rich

Dang Renjun, a young man from Gansu, along with his classmates Zhang Jiangguo and Wang Huaiyun, gave up well-paid city jobs just before graduation and returned to their hometown in Gansu to develop the sika deer farming industry, embarking on their own entrepreneurial path. Now the sika deer farm they established has begun to take shape, fulfilling their dream of getting rich through sika deer farming.

When it comes to farming, many people's first thoughts are raising pigs, sheep, or chickens…… When it comes to farming sika deer, everyone finds it quite unusual. But this was by no means a rash, impulsive move by Dang Renjun, Zhang Jiangguo and Wang Huaiyun. The idea that “being your own boss is always better than working for someone else” took root in their hearts. Since starting university, they had been thinking about how to build a business of their own. By a stroke of luck, while shopping with their classmates one day, they came across a large event being held in a public square. “There were deer blood wine on display, along with many treasures from sika deer.” They were caught up in the atmosphere of the event, and even more so, they recognized the potential market for sika deer farming.

“The sika deer is a treasure from head to toe, with important medicinal and economic value. Nowadays, people's demands for health are getting higher and higher, so there's no need to worry that deer farming has no market. As long as sales channels are opened up, the benefits are immediate.” Dang Renjun said that sika deer farming is fairly well established in Northeast China, but not very well known in Gansu, so entering the market now is absolutely full of promise. Once the decision was made, Dang Renjun, Zhang Jiangguo and Wang Huaiyun visited more than ten deer farms in the areas around Gansu, Shandong, Hebei and Jilin to investigate and learn. In the end, they decided to study farming techniques at Beijing Jiulu Farming Co., Ltd., and the training lasted six months. During those six months, the three of them humbly learned from the farm's technicians and were able to gain a preliminary grasp of sika deer breeding techniques and velvet antler processing techniques. Relying on local policy subsidies and funds sponsored by their parents, the three purchased fawns from Beijing Jiulu Farming Co., Ltd. With the help of Liu Wuquan, chairman of Beijing Jiulu Farming Co., Ltd., they easily embarked on the road to prosperity. When the reporter asked why they cooperated with Beijing Jiulu Farming Co., Ltd., the three told us that Jiulu Farming Co., Ltd. is one of China's top ten deer industry enterprises, a sika deer brand enterprise featured in nine CCTV interviews, and one of China's largest sika deer farming bases. Jiulu Company not only offers free technical training but also free food and accommodation. Jiulu Company is not only engaged in sika deer farming but also in the development of deer products. This provides strong technical and brand support for their future development.

The reporter learned that the current market prices for sika deer series products are: velvet antler at 2500 yuan/jin, and deer blood at 1200 yuan/jin. A sika deer can have its velvet antler cut twice a year. A large pair weighs about 6 jin, and a small pair weighs about 2 to 3 jin. The deer blood that flows out when cutting the velvet antler is about 3 to 4 jin. At these prices, plus series products such as placenta, the annual output value of each sika deer can reach tens of thousands of yuan.

Dang Renjun, Zhang Jiangguo and Wang Huaiyun, the three young friends, are not limited to sika deer farming; they also focus on broadening industrial channels and extending the industrial chain. They have now cooperated with Beijing Jiulu Farming Co., Ltd. to develop Jiulu sauce-flavored venison and the Quanlu deer series liquor. The products include fresh velvet antler liquor, velvet antler blood liquor, and fresh deer fetus liquor. The 1-jin bottles of the deer series liquor sell on the market for more than 100 yuan to more than 200 yuan each, and demand exceeds supply.

In order to expand the scale of sika deer farming, create industrial momentum, and improve economic benefits, the three have now applied to become a leading enterprise in sika deer farming in Gansu Province. Their goal is to use the ‘company + farmers’ model to encourage farmers to raise sika deer and help them get rich together.
