A Tibetan chicken in Lhasa, Tibet can sell for 200 yuan each
It is understood that at present (Tibet) Lhasa has a total of 26 Tibetan chicken breeding specialized cooperatives, represented by the Tibetan Chicken Breeding Specialized Cooperative of Gachong Village, Gurong Township, Doilungdeqen District, the Tibetan Chicken Breeding Specialized Cooperative of Tangga Township, Dagze County, and the Balog Tibetan Chicken Breeding Specialized Cooperative of Zhaxigang Township, Maizhokunggar County. In the first half of the year, Lhasa had 572,100 Tibetan chickens on hand and 355,200 slaughtered, and a large-scale Tibetan chicken breeding pattern is taking shape.
Tibetan chicken breeding cooperatives increase, and the breeding scale will continue to expand
In 2012, when reporters visited the market, they learned that at that time Lhasa had a total of 4 Tibetan chicken breeding specialized cooperatives, each with a slaughter volume of around 3,000. There were 2 breeding enterprises, with an annual breeding volume of more than 20,000. According to statistics, at that time Lhasa's large-scale Tibetan chicken breeding volume reached 150,000.
After just a few years of development, Lhasa's Tibetan chicken breeding industry has entered large-scale breeding. As of the first half of this year, Lhasa's large-scale Tibetan chicken breeding cooperatives reached 26, and Tibetan chicken output is growing larger and larger, with more than 10 in Doilungdeqen District alone. Data show that in the first half of this year, Lhasa had 572,100 Tibetan chickens on hand and 355,200 slaughtered. Among them, the Tibetan Chicken Breeding Specialized Cooperative of Gachong Village, Gurong Township, Doilungdeqen District, reached an annual sales volume of 50,000 Tibetan chickens, including 30,000 Tibetan chicken chicks and 20,000 finished Tibetan chickens.
In addition, according to reporters, the Balog Village Tibetan Chicken Breeding Cooperative located in Zhaxigang Township, Maizhokunggar County, has an annual Tibetan chicken breeding scale of 30,000. “We plan to build a breeding branch before the end of this year. At present we have applied to the relevant departments and have been granted 20,000 sq m of land in Tangjia Township, Maizhokunggar County as the land for our cooperative's next breeding branch.” A person in charge of the Balog Village Tibetan Chicken Breeding Cooperative told reporters, “After the breeding branch is built, we will expand our current Tibetan chicken breeding scale to more than 60,000, sell 35,000 Tibetan chickens and 600,000 Tibetan chicken eggs annually. By then the annual revenue is expected to reach more than 3 million, which can radiate and drive 250 surrounding breeding households, each increasing annual income by 10,000 to 30,000 yuan. We will also strive to achieve a breeding scale of 100,000 before 2020.”
Relying on advanced science and technology, Tibetan chicken breeding becomes more standardized
The expansion of the Tibetan chicken breeding scale shows that market demand for Tibetan chickens is constantly increasing. The reason demand is growing larger and larger is that consumers increasingly recognize the quality of Tibetan chickens. Everyone says Tibetan chicken quality is good, but where exactly is it good? This still requires stepping into a Tibetan chicken breeding cooperative to find out…… Just this past weekend, reporters drove to the Tibetan Chicken Breeding Specialized Cooperative of Gachong Village, Gurong Township, and the Balog Village Tibetan Chicken Breeding Cooperative of Zhaxigang Township, Maizhokunggar County.
Heading west along the Qinghai-Tibet line, in less than 1 hour, we arrived at the destination, the Tibetan Chicken Breeding Specialized Cooperative of Gachong Village, Gurong Township. Walking through the cooperative's gate, a large stretch of woods appeared before our eyes, appearing very quiet. When reporters walked into the woods, they discovered that this was where tens of thousands of Tibetan chickens lived. Seeing people walk in, the Tibetan chickens panicked and ran around. “Real Tibetan chickens need free-range raising. This large stretch of woods is where they usually move about. Long-term, large amounts of activity during free-range raising can consume excess fat, which is why Tibetan chickens have the characteristics of low fat and high protein.” Gesang Ciren told reporters with a smile, “So Tibetan chickens are more delicious than ordinary chickens. It is precisely because of this that they are loved by more and more people.”
To make Tibetan chicken breeding more large-scale, it must of course also rely on advanced science and technology——walking into the Balog Village Tibetan Chicken Breeding Cooperative makes this obvious, but before entering, you first have to undergo ultraviolet disinfection at the entrance. Walking into the cooperative, the Tibetan chicken rearing workshop, cage-rearing workshop, floor-rearing workshop, incubation equipment, brooding workshop, veterinary room and so on are all complete. Whether it is chicken farm construction, production techniques, personnel management, feed and veterinary drugs, disinfection and epidemic prevention, rearing and management of chicks, rearing and management of growing chickens, or rearing and management of laying hens, as well as waste treatment, slaughter, and production archive records, all are very standardized. The person in charge of the cooperative, Chag Lalham, told reporters that relying on advanced science and technology, the cooperative's annual Tibetan chicken slaughter volume is constantly increasing, and the annual income of cooperative members is also increasing. It is reported that at present Lhasa's Tibetan chickens have been sold outside the region, and the market price has reached 200 yuan each.
