Large numbers of dead fish stretch nearly 600 meters along Sanya Bay beach; relevant authorities intervene to investigate

Commercial Daily all-media reportOn August 10, large numbers of dead fish suddenly appeared on about 600 meters of beach at Sanya Bay. According to landscaping workers cleaning up at the scene, the dead fish may be related to nearby offshore fishing. Cleaning began at 5:30 this morning and had still not finished by noon at 12 o'clock. At present, the Sanya Ocean and Fisheries Bureau has intervened to investigate the matter.
On August 10, large numbers of dead fish suddenly appeared on about 600 meters of beach at Sanya Bay between the Xinfeng Street entrance and the Four Points by Sheraton Resort Hotel, giving off waves of fishy stench. Around noon, more than ten landscaping workers were busy cleaning up, while a loader nearby was responsible for loading and transporting the dead fish swept up.
A Commercial Daily reporter saw at the scene that the dead fish were densely packed and distributed along the coastline. In addition, large numbers of dead fish were also rolling in the waves lapping the shore. According to landscaping workers cleaning the scene, on the 9th the beach had still been completely normal. At 5:30 this morning, when the early-shift landscaping workers came on duty, they discovered large numbers of dead fish and began cleaning from then on. The work continued until noon at 12 o'clock, and only half had been cleaned up. If all the dead fish are cleaned up completely, there will be about 5,000 jin. According to the landscaping workers, the dead fish may be related to nearby offshore fishing.
At around 11 o'clock that day, staff from the relevant department of the Ocean and Fisheries Bureau arrived at the scene to investigate. According to statistics from Mr. Zhong, a technician at the Ocean and Fisheries Monitoring Center, the dead fish at the scene were all non-farmed sea fish, and preliminary observation showed there were about 15 species of fish. Such a situation had not previously occurred at Sanya Bay, and the specific cause still requires further investigation. However, preliminary estimates suggest that because the dead fish covered only just over 100 meters rather than the entire coastline, water quality or red tide causes can initially be ruled out.
