An ordinary farmer uses one money-making venture to help his fellow villagers increase their income together
In early 2009, Chen took a bus to a friend's home in a neighboring city, and what he saw there still stays with him today. "He ran a very large rabbit farm, on a big scale. I asked him about his income, and the figure startled me. Only then did I realize that you could also get rich through farming." Chen said.

After returning home, Chen thought it over and decided to go into farming just like his friend. "I went to my friend's place to learn for two months, and I picked up the basic techniques." Chen said. Chen began his grand farming venture. With the support of the township government, Chen took out a loan of 100,000 yuan and brought in another batch of fine breeding rabbits. Relying on the rabbit-raising skills he had mastered, business was decent that year.
But later Chen noticed that his slaughter rate was fairly low. How could he raise it? Chen wondered whether he could improve things through the feed. "At that time, pelleted feed had just started appearing in China, and I thought I might as well try it as a last resort." Chen said. Who would have thought that after buying it and using it for half a year, he found the rabbits' feed intake went up, the growth cycle shortened, and the slaughter rate naturally rose as well.
"But pelleted feed costs too much. Few people in China sell this kind of product, so it's very expensive. This once made me want to give up and switch to powdered feed. Later I happened to learn that Gemco makes feed pellet machines, machines that can make pelleted feed, so I thought I'd go take a look." Chen said.
In the summer of 2012, Chen visited Gemco. After seeing Gemco's machines, he felt very satisfied. "When I tested the machine, I felt it pelletized quickly, with output reaching about 1,000 kg per hour, so I bought one on the spot and took it home, wanting to see how making my own pelleted feed would go." Having bought a rabbit feed pellet machine, Chen began another kind of life, hiring several more people to make pellets while raising rabbits. After a year, he found to his surprise that his income had risen 30% over the previous year.
In the blink of an eye, six or seven years had passed since he first started farming. As his business flourished, Chen also recommended pelleted feed to friends. Dry-in, dry-out pelleted feed stores longer and can improve animals' indigestion and picky eating. Pelleted feed also better suits some of animals' chewing characteristics.
The reporter also learned from the feed pellet machine manufacturer Gemco that more and more people in China are now using pelleted feed. Not only do large farms, companies and feed mills use pellet feed machines and their complete sets of equipment, but small and medium-sized farmers and self-employed individuals also choose to buy a pellet feed machine to make feed themselves.
Rabbit farming has always had great economic benefits. Mastering the relevant farming skills and techniques and using suitable feed are crucial for rabbit farming.
