Why is raising a daughter better than raising a son in rural areas? The third reason is heartbreaking
I have lived in rural areas for many years, and in the past the preference for sons over daughters in rural areas was quite serious. This has led to a sharp decline in the number of girls in rural areas in recent years, and many rural boys have to pay high bride prices to find a wife, and even then a number of rural men still end up bachelors. However, in recent years in the rural areas around here, more and more families are more willing to raise daughters. Because everyone now increasingly understands that having a daughter has at least the following three advantages over having a son.

First, the financial burden of having a daughter in rural areas is relatively small. This is actually easy to understand. In rural areas, if a family has a son, then when he reaches marriageable age, they need to build him a house and arrange for him to take a wife, and this pressure is quite great for a farming family, especially given the sharp rise in rural bride prices in recent years. But with a daughter, even for those more open-minded rural parents who ask for little bride price from the man's family, at least there is not much financial pressure when the daughter marries.
Second, the burden of daily life with a daughter in rural areas is also relatively small. In rural areas, when a son marries and takes a wife, they all live in the same village as the parents. When the daughter-in-law has a child, the parents have to busy themselves helping to take care of it. If their son and daughter-in-law need to go out to work, then this elderly rural couple has to worry even more. But a rural daughter generally marries into another village, and after she has a child, it is mainly the man's parents who are troubled. In fact, this situation is the same in the city and the countryside, except that it is more prominent in rural areas, because traditional ideas in rural areas are more conservative, and maternal grandparents generally do not participate in looking after their daughter's children.
Third, in rural areas, daughters are often more filial to their parents than sons. The situation in rural areas is that after a son marries, he lives in the same village as his parents, and although they see each other all the time and it is more convenient to help the parents when something comes up, based on the actual situation in the rural areas around here, many sons "forget their mother once they take a wife." In particular, many farming families have more than one son, and often several sons push the responsibility of supporting their parents back and forth between them. For those rural elderly who are bedridden, the ones who can truly take care of their daily needs are often the daughters. Looking at the cases reported on those rural channels on TV, many are about unfilial sons, and unfilial daughters are rarely seen.
The above are a few points of analysis from me. As an old farmer, because I do not know much about the situation in the city, I am not clear about what kind of views city parents have when it comes to having and raising children. The countryside has the countryside's stories, and the city has the city's troubles, and there is no ranking of better or worse. I write about the countryside because I love the countryside!
