Scientific fruit and vegetable cultivation techniques help farmers increase income

"Farming is not such an easy thing either; you have to rely on knowledge and techniques." On July 30, Zhang Xueshun, a villager from Zhangjiazhuang Village, Yigou Town, Tangyin County, Anyang City, Henan Province, told this writer.

Zhang Xueshun, 52, has worked as a cook and led a construction team, but in the end he returned to the land. Zhang Xueshun said he is simply a farmer who loves the land. At first, he contracted 9 mu of orchard. Knowing nothing about fruit tree cultivation, he taught himself by reading books, often carrying a book into the orchard, reading while looking at the fruit trees, and managing the orchard bit by bit according to the knowledge in the books. When he could not understand the books, he would run to the Zhengzhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences to consult professors. After many such visits, he and the professors became acquaintances. Later, when the academy of agricultural sciences held agricultural lectures, they would invite him... On the road of learning agricultural science and technology, Zhang Xueshun went further and further. Over several years, he not only improved his agricultural techniques, but his wallet also grew fuller.

In 2013, Zhang Xueshun took out all his savings and transferred 80 mu of land in Zhangjiazhuang Village to practice interplanting in fruit tree orchards. He allocated resources scientifically and planted apple trees, pear trees and peach trees rationally, interplanting cabbage, broccoli, onions and cauliflower under these fruit trees. Under Zhang Xueshun's careful management, the land did not let him down either; that year's net income exceeded 300,000 yuan.

"I want to transfer more land and build sightseeing fruit tree greenhouses. When the fruit trees bloom, visitors can enjoy the flowers and stroll around; when the fruit ripens, visitors can taste and pick it." Zhang Xueshun is full of confidence about the future.
