People's Daily Online, Kunming, August 12 (Li Faxing) Recently, 3,800 mu of marigolds spread across Chijiu Town, Fumin County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, arranged in picturesque disorder and rolling in continuous waves, standing out strikingly in the early autumn mountains.

Marigold, also called stinking marigold, is widely used in cosmetics and medicine in addition to being refined for food coloring. In recent years, Fumin County has introduced marigold cultivation by planting while promoting and by using points to drive broader areas, vigorously developing plateau-characteristic agriculture and seeking a path out of poverty and toward prosperity for the people. In 2016, the 10 village committees within the jurisdiction of Chijiu Town planted more than 3,800 mu of marigolds in total, with an estimated output of about 12,000 tons and gross profit of about 12 million yuan.
