Xinfeng Township in Huangshan District: The "Vegetable Basket" Helps Farmers onto the Road to Prosperity

Yet at the construction site of the "Vegetable Basket" livelihood project in Fengxi Village, voices buzz and machinery roars; the workers, sweating profusely, are busy installing greenhouses, tilling the land and cultivating vegetable seedlings, presenting a scene of prosperity.

Gazing at the newly built greenhouses and rows upon rows of verdant seedlings, He Xianliang, a major grower, said happily: "The vegetable basket has given my family another path to prosperity and higher income. I will certainly run it well and grow plenty of green, organic vegetables to supply everyone."

It is reported that the more than 20 mu of steel-framed greenhouses newly built under the "Vegetable Basket" livelihood project in Fengxi Village, Xinfeng Township, have been completed, with another 10 mu awaiting construction. At present, autumn vegetables of several varieties, including chili peppers, eggplants and green vegetables, have been planted, and several more varieties are being planted successively. Speaking of the "prosperity recipe" in the "vegetable basket," He Xianliang said confidently: "Xinfeng Township lies on the important tourist route from Jingxian County to Taohuatan. The market prospects for traditional green vegetables are good. My goal is to plant all the traditional vegetables on my own vegetable base, one crop after another, to meet market demand. The first batch of vegetables is expected to reach the market around November, and the newly built vegetable greenhouses can yield returns in the very same year."

To accelerate the construction of the Vegetable Basket livelihood project, Xinfeng Township has seized the key window of the summer-autumn vegetable crop rotation, increased project funding, constantly improved the conditions of agricultural production infrastructure, actively introduced new varieties and new technologies, given full play to the demonstration and leading role of major growers, vigorously guided farmers to produce safe and high-quality agricultural products, and used channels such as "Internet Plus" to further expand product sales, continuously boosting farmers' incomes.
