Pumpkin seeds cost 12 yuan per seed, and a 130-jin pumpkin king was grown from one

One pumpkin weighs over a hundred jin; even two people struggle to lift it.
Recently, this writer heard that a huge pumpkin of over a hundred jin had grown in Zhanghuochang Village. On August 12, this writer, drawn by the news, came to Zhanghuochang Village in Zhangjiapan Subdistrict, Jingbian County, to find out the truth. Yun Yuhu said: The pumpkin seeds were new extra-large pumpkin seeds bought last year at the Yangling Agricultural High-tech Fair. One packet of seeds contained five seeds for 60 yuan, which is 12 yuan per seed. The seeds were precious, so I was quite meticulous when planting. According to the pumpkin's growth process, from small pumpkin and young pumpkin to the expansion stage, I watered, weeded and fertilized at the right times, and it grew this big.
Outside the courtyard gate of Yun Yuhu, owner of the Lefeng Family Farm in Jingbian County, this writer saw this big pumpkin. Apart from its size, the big pumpkin looked no different from other pumpkins. It was golden all over, and its stem was about the size of a child's fist; a child could sit on it and play. One adult could not hold it, two people could barely manage it, and only three people could carry it steadily. This was the 130-jin giant pumpkin cultivated by Yun Yuhu, who has 22 years of vegetable-growing experience.
Good wine needs no bush. After hearing that the Yun family had grown a big pumpkin, people from miles around rushed to visit and take photos. “The pumpkin vine is almost being trampled broken.” Yun Yuhu told this writer, “The pumpkin seeds were new extra-large pumpkin seeds I bought last year at the Yangling Agricultural High-tech Fair. One packet of seeds contained five seeds for 60 yuan, which is 12 yuan per seed. The seeds were precious, so I was quite meticulous when planting. According to the pumpkin's growth process, from small pumpkin and young pumpkin to the expansion stage, I watered, weeded and fertilized at the right times, and it grew this big.” Looking at the “big fellow” pumpkin grown at home, Yun Yuhu was grinning from ear to ear with joy.
Yun Yuhu said many cooperatives wanted to buy this pumpkin from him, but he did not agree. “I plan to donate this pumpkin to the county agricultural bureau and display it at the China Vegetable Festival soon to be held in our county, to see whether merchants take a fancy to this pumpkin. Next year I plan to invest 10,000 yuan to plant one mu of this kind of giant pumpkin. Only by daring to innovate is success possible.” (Bai Lingyan, Liu He) (Responsible editor: Dong Yanxue)
