Dragon fruit enters peak harvest season, Jinghong Xinhai Cooperative is bustling with activity
In recent days, Dai farmers at the Manwan Xinhai Dragon Fruit Planting Professional Cooperative in Gasa Town, Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province, have been busy harvesting dragon fruit, which is packed and sold to Northeast China.
This year the cooperative has sold more than 500 tons of dragon fruit externally, generating revenue of 2.6 million yuan, effectively broadening the channels for increasing farmers' income.
The villages of Manwan in Gasa Town are shaded by green trees and filled with the songs of birds and the fragrance of flowers, making it a demonstration village for ecological civilization construction in Yunnan Province. In recent years, as rubber prices declined in the market, Yan Wenxiang, a Dai villager of Manwan Village, took the lead in establishing the Xinhai Dragon Fruit Planting Professional Cooperative.
The cooperative has made full use of local advantages such as fertile land and abundant water resources, starting with ecological sightseeing agriculture, changing the single rubber planting model, and scientifically planting 561 mu of dragon fruit. The Gasa Town Agricultural Technology Extension Station strengthened a series of scientific and technical training sessions on dragon fruit cultivation, management, and pest and disease control, enabling the 20 Dai farming households that joined the cooperative to master scientific dragon fruit planting techniques and management essentials. The dragon fruit they grow is large and sweet, and is deeply loved by consumers. City dwellers come in an endless stream to the dragon fruit planting base to pick dragon fruit, effectively driving the development of agritourism and promoting Dai villagers' income growth and prosperity.
