When the head of the household leads the villagers to pave the road to prosperity
From roads that were hard to travel and a dispirited population to a greatly transformed village appearance, from relying solely on the mercy of the weather to modernized cooperative management, from complete ignorance to experts coming through the door and a thriving culture of learning... Over 14 years, Tongxin Village, located in the southwest of Quannongshan Town in the Changchun Lianhuashan Ecological Tourism Resort, has changed in more than just small ways, and whenever these changes are discussed, the villagers always thank one person, and that is their village Party general branch secretary, village committee director, and National Model Worker Zhu Jinliang.
"Choosing Zhu Jinliang as our head of the household was truly the right choice. Quite apart from anything else, just look at the road our village built - it really is our road to prosperity." The "road to prosperity" the villagers speak of is precisely the first practical matter Zhu Jinliang set about resolving for the villagers after taking office.
In 2002, 37-year-old Zhu Jinliang became the Party general branch secretary and village committee director of Tongxin Village. At that time, Tongxin Village was a "chronic problem village" with outdated and dilapidated infrastructure and a dispirited population. The village was not only deeply in debt but did not even have a single decent road. The villagers vividly described four difficulties at the time: difficulty transporting vegetables once ripe, difficulty for students getting to school on rainy days, difficulty getting emergency treatment when sick, and difficulty for vehicles to get around.
To enrich the village, first enrich its roads. Starting in 2003, in order to pave a "road to prosperity" for the villagers to travel freely, Zhu Jinliang wore out his "soles" quite a bit: reaching out in many directions, securing funding, leading the construction work... Over several years, by 2007, every household in the village had concrete road access. In 2014, after much coordination, Zhu Jinliang applied for support from higher levels and installed solar street lights for 1 cooperative in Tongxin Village, and in 2015 installed them for 6 more cooperatives. Today, whenever night falls, Tongxin Village can be described as brightly lit.
Once the village roads were built, Zhu Jinliang began a new round of his "prosperity road" plan in his mind. "The 'prosperity road' is not just about letting the villagers walk on smooth concrete roads; more importantly, it is about finding the villagers a new path to prosperity." Zhu Jinliang admitted frankly that although Tongxin Village is a major agricultural village on the outskirts of Changchun's urban area, the farmers only planted conventional crops, relied on the mercy of the weather, and lacked competitiveness.
Relying on the persistence of a true son of Northeast China, Zhu Jinliang conducted research in many directions and ultimately chose greenhouse vegetable cultivation as the project for prosperity. He mobilized the villagers to build vegetable greenhouses for trials; when some farming households did not understand the techniques, he invited agricultural experts from all around to conduct on-site inspections, brought in skilled technicians to guide them in the fields, and opened farmers' night schools to raise their cultural and technical levels... One solid, tangible thing after another gave the villagers a "reassurance pill" and mobilized their enthusiasm for contracting greenhouses to grow vegetables.
