Quli Town Leads Villagers to Grow Sugarcane and Find a Path to Higher Income and Prosperity

The lush green sugarcane looks even more verdant in the gentle breeze and fine rain, while the gray-white concrete road winds forward through the sugarcane fields... This is the scene a reporter saw recently at the sugarcane planting base in Gengfeng Tun, Qufeng Village, Quli Town.

At the beginning of this year, with the guidance and help of higher-level departments, Gengfeng Tun established the Gengfeng Sugarcane Production Service Professional Cooperative, with more than 600 mu of land contributed as shares and more than 1,000 mu in the sugarcane "dual-high" base. As of now, the rate of villagers voluntarily joining the sugarcane cooperative has reached 100%. On June 29, the Gengfeng Sugarcane Production Service Professional Cooperative was awarded the title of "Advanced Farmers' Cooperative in the Construction of Chongzuo City's High-Quality, High-Yield, High-Sugar Sugarcane Base" by the municipal party committee and municipal government.

Innovating Mechanisms, Land Contributed as Shares

"The villagers' land plots are small, numerous, and relatively scattered, making cultivation quite difficult." said Lan Hualiang, a member of the board of the Gengfeng Sugarcane Production Service Professional Cooperative. Before the cooperative was established, villagers all planted separately, and management was very inadequate. In addition, many young people in the village went out to work year-round, and most of those farming at home were elderly. Some families did not manage their land planting well, yields were very low, and some land was even left abandoned, making it very difficult to put all the land to full use.

At the beginning of this year, taking advantage of the opportunity to build the sugarcane "dual-high" base, the municipal party committee work team and the Quli Town work team came to Gengfeng Tun and mobilized the masses to establish a sugarcane production service professional cooperative by contributing land as shares. After many mass mobilization meetings for discussion, the tun registered and established the Gengfeng Sugarcane Production Service Professional Cooperative on January 14, 2016, with a total of 128 member households and 535 people, covering every household in the tun. At the same time, through villagers' voting, a cooperative board and supervisory board were established, with the board and supervisory board supervising each other, and Lan Hualiang became the cooperative's executive supervisor.
