Latest egg price trends: domestic market sees slight increase
According to monitoring, in the 33rd week of 2016 (August 15-21, 2016, the same below), the "National Agricultural Products Wholesale Price Index" was 203.71 (with 2000 as 100), up 1.42 points from the previous week; the "National Basket Products Wholesale Price Index" was 205.31 (with 2000 as 100), up 1.69 points from the previous week, with eggs and vegetables contributing the most. The total transaction volume of 60 varieties in 50 key wholesale markets under monitoring was 603,400 tonnes, down 1.8% from the previous week.
Pork prices fell slightly, while egg prices rose slightly. The weekly average price of pork was 25.14 yuan per kg, down 0.7% week-on-week and up 2.4% year-on-year; eggs were 7.27 yuan per kg, up 3.7% week-on-week and down 17.0% year-on-year; beef was 53.13 yuan per kg, up 0.3% week-on-week and down 1.2% year-on-year; mutton was 43.83 yuan per kg, down 1.1% week-on-week and down 8.9% year-on-year; dressed chicken was 14.77 yuan per kg, down 1.3% week-on-week and up 1.3% year-on-year. The weekly transaction volume of the above 5 livestock products under key monitoring (total transaction volume of 50 key wholesale markets, the same below) was 15,200 tonnes, down 5.6% week-on-week.
Prices of major aquatic products fell slightly. The weekly average prices per kg of crucian carp, grass carp, common carp, large hairtail, silver carp, large yellow croaker and bighead carp were 17.92 yuan, 13.00 yuan, 11.58 yuan, 31.93 yuan, 6.86 yuan, 44.19 yuan and 11.91 yuan respectively, down 2.4%, 1.5%, 1.4%, 1.2%, 1.2%, 1.0% and 0.1% week-on-week respectively. The weekly transaction volume of the 7 aquatic products was 12,300 tonnes, down 8.2% week-on-week.
The average vegetable price continued to rise. The weekly average price of the 28 vegetables under key monitoring was 3.65 yuan per kg, up 1.7% week-on-week, marking the 7th consecutive week of slight increases, and down 5.9% year-on-year. By variety, prices of 18 vegetables rose, 4 remained flat and 6 fell, among which cucumber and eggplant rose relatively sharply, up 13.0% and 8.5% week-on-week respectively; white radish, carrot, ginger and potato were basically flat week-on-week; green beans and rapeseed fell 3.0% and 2.4% week-on-week respectively. The weekly transaction volume of the 28 vegetables was 428,000 tonnes, down 2.7% week-on-week.
The average fruit price fell slightly. The weekly average price of the 7 fruits under key monitoring was 4.88 yuan per kg, up 1.2% week-on-week and down 6.7% year-on-year. By variety, the weekly average prices of pineapple, banana, Ya pear, watermelon and Fuji apple rose 5.0%, 4.2%, 2.1%, 1.2% and 0.6% week-on-week respectively; Kyoho grape fell 2.4% week-on-week. The weekly transaction volume of the 7 fruits was 134,600 tonnes, basically flat week-on-week.
