Egg prices soar as Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, nearing five yuan per jin
As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, along with the gradually warming festive atmosphere, egg prices have also been soaring. A reporter visited several vegetable markets in Zhangdian and found that egg prices have been rising repeatedly recently, with the retail price per jin already approaching 5 yuan.
A reporter visited several vegetable markets in Zhangdian and found that egg prices in Zibo have maintained a continuous upward momentum recently, especially over the past week, with the average retail price of eggs rising by 1 to 2 mao every day.
The reporter learned during interviews that more than half a month ago, egg prices in Zibo were still around 3.5 yuan/jin. Since the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, egg prices began climbing steadily, and by today, the retail price of eggs has reached 4.9 yuan/jin. "Suddenly rising from 3.5 yuan to nearly 5 yuan within just over ten days, quite a few consumers do feel the price is a bit on the high side." Egg retailer Mr. Dong told the reporter that although egg prices have soared recently, he estimates the upward trend has not stopped. "These past two days it looks like it will break through the 5-yuan mark, and as for the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival itself, that goes without saying."
At a large supermarket on Xiqi Road, the reporter saw that the retail price of eggs was 4.8 yuan/jin. According to the sales staff, although egg prices have risen somewhat quickly recently, as a consumer product on ordinary people's daily dining tables, sales have not been greatly affected, and for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, the sales staff estimate that sales may see a noticeable increase.
The reporter learned that the recent continuous rise in egg prices is mainly due to laying hens entering the summer rest period, which has reduced egg production, while as various schools gradually reopen and the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, distributors and food factories have begun their stockpiling phase, and market demand has grown to a certain extent, driving up egg prices. Based on market conditions in previous years, egg prices are expected to continue to rise before the Mid-Autumn Festival.
