A modern agricultural wizard who struck gold in the soil and found his way to prosperity
In Huixian City there is such a person: in January 2003 he founded an agricultural plantation, and in 2004 the plantation he founded was awarded the title "Municipal Baiquan Characteristic Planting Science Popularization Demonstration Base" (hereinafter referred to as the Base) by the Municipal Association for Science and Technology and the Municipal Rural Economic Work Leading Group. The Base vigorously promotes new agricultural technologies, new varieties and new models, and spreads science popularization knowledge, achieving good results. By the end of 2011, the Base had successfully introduced more than 20 famous and superior fruit tree varieties such as **Thompson Seedless and Manaizi, 7 peanut varieties, more than 10 new wheat and corn varieties, introduced and promoted 19 new sweet potato varieties, promoted 5 new technologies and 2 new three-dimensional planting models for different crops as well as a three-dimensional courtyard grape cultivation model, undertaken 2 municipal science and technology development plan projects and 1 scientific and technological achievement transformation project, and 3 scientific and technological achievements passed provincial-level certification. This person is Li Zhongqiu, general manager of Henan Jinqiu High-Efficiency Agricultural Ecological Development Co., Ltd.
Teaching agricultural technology to increase farmers' income
In 2004, Li Zhongqiu contracted 50 mu of mountain forest within the Dayi Fengguangyuan Scenic Area and founded the Base. The Base includes a **grape demonstration garden and a seedling breeding base. Through Li Zhongqiu's continuous efforts and the strong support of governments at all levels, the Base expanded rapidly, from 50 mu at its founding to more than 250 mu today. At present, the Base has 30 technical personnel of various kinds. In order to develop rapidly, the Base has also engaged 12 experts and professors from the Henan Provincial Forestry Research Institute, Henan Provincial Institute of Science and Technology, and the Municipal Agriculture Bureau as long-term technical consultants. The Base's demonstration varieties have also expanded from a single grape planting to a variety of crop plantings, radiating and driving more than 20,000 farmers in our city and 3 surrounding areas, 5 counties and 40 townships (towns), increasing farmers' income by 30 million yuan. The Base has played an important role in promoting our city's agricultural structural adjustment, ecological environment improvement and socialist new countryside construction.
Li Zhongqiu well understands the advantages of leading technology and advanced awareness in agricultural production. Therefore, in his daily work, Li Zhongqiu actively organizes the Base's technical backbone staff to participate in various activities. At the same time, he uses radio, television, newspapers and other media to spread scientific and technological knowledge. In the production process, he regularly organizes farmer friends to come to the Base for theoretical training and production practice, passing advanced cultivation techniques on to farmers, driving farmers to develop characteristic modern agriculture and increasing farmers' economic income.
Introducing grape varieties to fill a gap in the province
In the early days of the Base's founding, Li Zhongqiu, as the person in charge of the Base, led scientific researchers in systematic observation and study of the growth characteristics and fruiting habits of **Thompson Seedless and Manaizi grapes, solved the technical problems of low survival rate in the initial introduction and transplanting of these two **grape varieties and relatively severe occurrence of pests and diseases, and worked out a set of cultivation and management techniques suited to the local area. This technology filled the gap in Henan Province in the introduction and cultivation of **grapes. In December 2007, the project on introduction evaluation and demonstration cultivation of **Thompson Seedless and Manaizi grapes won the Henan Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Award; in 2008, the project on introduction evaluation and demonstration cultivation of **Thompson Seedless grapes won the second prize of the Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award; in 2011, the Flame Red Seedless grape project won the Henan Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Award; in 2011, the Flame Red Seedless grape project also won the second prize of the Xinxiang Science and Technology Progress Award. Li Zhongqiu has also been awarded titles such as "Advanced Agricultural Science Popularization Worker", "Advanced Worker of the Provincial Association for Science and Technology System" and "Spark Program Leader" many times.
Li Zhongqiu well understands that individuals and the Base share honor and disgrace, and whatever he does, he considers it from the perspectives of the Base's future development and how much benefit it can bring to the people, and gives full play to the Base's demonstration, driving and radiating role to achieve the goals of Base development and people's prosperity. At present, Li Zhongqiu's achievements are obvious to all, not only has he personally been commended by departments at all levels many times, but the Base has also been rated many times as an advanced unit in invigorating agriculture through science and technology, a Henan Provincial Rural Science Popularization Demonstration Base, and a trial base of the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute, among others. In addition, Li Zhongqiu has also introduced and promoted superior wheat varieties such as Yumai 68, Yumai 52, Yanzhan 4110 and Yumai 18-99, as well as new corn varieties such as Jundan 22, Zhangyu 9 and Zhengdan 958, covering a total of more than 400,000 mu.
