Guizhou Libo: Transparently Produced Honey Pomelo Becomes a Hit

In mid-July, about two months before Libo honey pomelo hits the market, more than a thousand buyers and consumers came to Libo County, Guizhou Province, to sign subscription agreements, and all 1 million kg of honey pomelo were pre-ordered. Why is Libo honey pomelo so popular?

Libo honey pomelo won the Golden Cup Award at the 5th National Pomelo Variety Competition in 1998. In the past, due to reasons such as logistics and sales channels, its market visibility was not high. In order to let more consumers taste Libo honey pomelo, Haorenyuantai Group cooperated with Libo County to carry out a honey pomelo reservation campaign.

All 1 million kg of honey pomelo were snapped up within 3 hours, not only because of the quality of the honey pomelo itself, but also because of its safe and controllable transparent production process. The 100,000-mu honey pomelo base jointly developed by Haorenyuantai Group and Libo County is actively building a traceable supply chain system, and will strictly monitor links such as fertilizer, soil, field management and logistics. From variety, planting, growth, fruiting and transportation to market launch, the honey pomelo is under strict food safety management throughout. Zhao Zhangshan, Chairman of Haorenyuantai Group, said that the honey pomelo orchard will implement a series of informatized and visualized measures, including 24-hour online video image monitoring, soil data monitoring and air environment data monitoring.

Yin Dejun, Secretary of the Libo County Party Committee, said that this move is also a response to Guizhou Province's policy requirement of “resources becoming assets, funds becoming shares, and farmers becoming shareholders”, using the integration of agriculture and tourism to promote the “integration of primary, secondary and tertiary industries” in agriculture, and activating “sleeping” capital such as rural land, assets and natural scenery. In the future, agricultural parks will be built to scenic area standards, creating a mountain agriculture sightseeing tourism belt, and striving to increase the supply of pollution-free ecological and safe food within the county.
