Vegetable wholesale market prices rose slightly for eight consecutive weeks

According to monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture, in the 34th week of 2016 (August 22-28, 2016, the same below), the "National Agricultural Products Wholesale Price Index" was 205.51 (with 2000 as 100), up 1.80 points from the previous week; the "National Basket of Products Wholesale Price Index" was 207.36 (with 2000 as 100), up 2.06 points from the previous week, with eggs and vegetables contributing the most. The total transaction volume of 60 varieties in 50 key monitored wholesale markets was 598,700 tons, down 0.8% from the previous week.

Egg prices continued to rise. The weekly average price of eggs was 7.81 yuan per kg, up 7.4% week-on-week, with the increase widening by 3.7 percentage points, and down 14.6% year-on-year. Market reports reflect that the approach of the Mid-Autumn Festival plus the successive start of the school term in various places increased demand, driving the recent consecutive rise in egg prices; pork was 25.15 yuan per kg, basically flat week-on-week, and up 2.2% year-on-year; beef was 53.28 yuan per kg, up 0.3% week-on-week, and down 0.8% year-on-year; mutton was 44.30 yuan per kg, up 1.1% week-on-week, and down 7.3% year-on-year; white-striped chicken was 14.84 yuan per kg, up 0.5% week-on-week, and up 1.6% year-on-year. The weekly transaction volume of the above 5 livestock products under key monitoring (total transaction volume of 50 key wholesale markets, the same below) was 16,400 tons, up 7.9% week-on-week.

Aquatic product prices rose and fell mixed. The weekly average prices of silver carp, crucian carp, grass carp and common carp were 6.96 yuan, 18.00 yuan, 13.02 yuan and 11.59 yuan per kg, up 1.5%, 0.4%, 0.2% and 0.1% week-on-week respectively; the weekly average prices of bighead carp, large hairtail and large yellow croaker were 11.73 yuan, 31.60 yuan and 43.94 yuan per kg, down 1.5%, 1.0% and 0.6% week-on-week respectively. The weekly transaction volume of 7 aquatic products was 12,300 tons, flat week-on-week.

The average vegetable price continued to rise. The weekly average price of 28 key monitored vegetables was 3.80 yuan per kg, up 4.1% week-on-week, the 8th consecutive week of slight increase, and down 2.3% year-on-year. By variety, 19 vegetables rose in price, 1 was flat, and 8 fell, among which cucumber, zucchini, cauliflower and shiitake mushroom rose relatively more, up 18.1%, 14.3%, 11.5% and 10.0% week-on-week respectively; potato was basically flat week-on-week; Chinese chives and lotus root fell 3.9% and 3.7% week-on-week respectively. The weekly transaction volume of 28 vegetables was 437,700 tons, up 2.3% week-on-week.

The average fruit price was flat with a slight rise. The weekly average price of 7 key monitored fruits was 4.89 yuan per kg, up 0.2% week-on-week, and down 6.0% year-on-year. By variety, the weekly average prices of banana, ya pear and pineapple rose 3.8%, 1.0% and 0.9% week-on-week respectively; watermelon, Fuji apple and Kyoho grape fell 2.9%, 0.9% and 0.9% week-on-week respectively. The weekly transaction volume of 7 fruits was 117,000 tons, down 13.1% week-on-week.
