Constraints on the new socialist countryside

The building of a new socialist countryside is in full swing across the land of China, making the motherland incomparably beautiful. As many new countryside construction and renovation projects are completed, the face of rural areas is undergoing earth-shaking changes. But we should also recognize that certain factors still constrain the building of our country's new socialist countryside.

Labor shortage

Most of today's rural economic model is “left-behind elderly and children at home, young people going out to work, and the more educated the young people are, the more they choose to stay outside.” It seems that without industry there is no wealth. But it cannot be denied that the current state of rural economic development is not yet enough to provide sufficient jobs to meet the employment needs of the young labor force, and the current rural economic development model is not enough to give many of the younger generation much room for development in agriculture. Therefore, many young people choose to go out to work, and at this stage it is imperative to focus on transforming the rural economic development model.

Emphasis on industry over agriculture

A main manifestation of rural areas lies in the character “agriculture” (nong). The idea of agriculture as the foundation has existed since ancient times, but the current situation is a serious emphasis on industry and commerce and a neglect of agriculture. What is more, the so-called new countryside renovation and rural urbanization have made people gradually detach from the land, driven the labor force to look down on agriculture in their thinking, and accelerated the loss of agricultural workers.

Outdated attitudes

In rural areas, because of the characteristics of rural areas, when people grow old they cannot have the pensions, insurance and other protections that urban workers have, and can only rely on the filial piety of their children to sustain their lives in old age, so that the elderly cannot guarantee the stability and quality of their lives. This even forms a vicious circle: they have no choice but to have children, and even if they do, those children may not necessarily support them.

Summary: The fact that the aging population is becoming more and more serious is undoubtedly an invisible and powerful social landmine. All of these constrain the building of our country's new socialist countryside and slow the pace of building our country's new socialist countryside. We should clearly recognize these specific problems and find ways to resolve these contradictions well, so as to make our due contribution to the building of our country's new socialist countryside.
