A Changning young man farms wasps to increase his income and get rich

Through his own efforts to farm wasps, increase his income and get rich, and lead the surrounding people out of poverty toward prosperity, achieving both economic and ecological benefits, is what Wu Yunxi, a young man from rural Changning, is determined to do.

Wu Yunxi, 20 years old this year, lives in the Chunhuadi Villager Group of Mengting Community, Tianyuan Town. A few years ago he explained that on the one hand, he had gone up the mountain with his father to look for wild wasps when he was a child, so he had special memories of wasps, and on the other hand, "in 2013, I happened to see on CCTV's agriculture channel that people in Dehong Prefecture had become rich by farming wasps artificially, and that gave me the idea of farming wasps."

At the time, Wu Yunxi was still studying at Changning County Vocational Technical School. After having the idea of farming wasps, he began learning wasp farming techniques while attending classes. In 2014, after graduating from the vocational school, he did not rush to find a job like his classmates; instead, with his father's support, he went to Dehong to learn wasp farming techniques. In August 2015, Wu Yunxi returned home after completing his training and, with his family's help, began breeding queen wasps to farm wasps. Speaking of his entrepreneurial experience, Wu Yunxi smiled and said: "At the time many people said I was foolish, but now many people see that I have succeeded and say I have good ideas."

In April this year, Wu Yunxi successfully bred more than 400 wasp species and sold more than 200, earning more than 7,000 yuan. In June this year, he sold more than 110 standard wasp colonies, earning more than 30,000 yuan.

Pointing to a small wasp nest, Wu Yunxi said that at present he still has more than 50 colonies of wasps that he has moved onto trees to farm, and he expects to earn about 50,000 yuan from selling wasp pupae and collecting wasp venom.

To better lead the surrounding people in farming wasps, in January this year Wu Yunxi registered and established the Linjin Family Farm in Tianyuan Town, Changning County. He hopes more people will farm wasps together with him. Wu Yunxi said: "Next I will continue to refine and improve wasp farming techniques, and at the same time carry out technical training to lead everyone out of poverty toward prosperity."
