Helping the poor out of poverty, using a point to drive an area, and leading the whole village to prosperity together

Since the beginning of this year, the Luoning County Power Supply Company has proceeded from the actual conditions of its paired assistance village, Jiagou Village, by going from household to household to accurately identify those in poverty, tailoring assistance measures to each person, and investing funds and technical support in the village's specialty planting and breeding industries and other measures, using the “point” of helping poor households escape poverty to drive the “area” of the whole village's people becoming prosperous.

Tailoring a “poverty alleviation method”

The weekend of the first week of every month is the poverty alleviation day of the Luoning County Power Supply Company. On September 3, the first Saturday of September, staff members of the company arrived early in the morning at its paired assistance village——Jiagou Village, Luoling Township, Luoning County, and invited medical staff from Luoning County Bo'ai Hospital to the village to carry out free medical consultations.

Jiagou Village is located about thirty kilometers from Luoning County town, has more than 500 villagers, and currently has 17 poor households totaling 57 people. Villager Jin Wanfei is one of these poor households. He is 48 this year. An accident two years ago left him paralyzed in bed to this day. His two children are still young, and his wife must care for his eating, drinking, and daily needs every day. The family lives in poverty.

Because of this, Jin Wanfei became a key assistance target of the Luoning County Power Supply Company. During summer planting, they sent seeds and fertilizer; during festivals, they sent rice, flour, and oil…… When mentioning the Luoning County Power Supply Company's repeated assistance, Jin Wanfei's wife Gao Baipo was so grateful that tears welled up in her eyes.

Considering that Jin Wanfei's family lacks labor, the Luoning County Power Supply Company specially formulated a breeding-based poverty alleviation measure for them. That morning, staff members of the company came to Jin Wanfei's home to discuss with him the matter of helping him raise cattle.

It is understood that in order to ensure the effective development of targeted poverty alleviation work, the Luoning County Power Supply Company specially issued a “one-to-one pairing poverty alleviation work form,” organizing assistance-leading Party member cadres to go deep into the homes of the poor households they are assigned to, to learn about family population, income, planting structure, causes of poverty, and so on, thereby formulating precise and effective poverty alleviation measures.

Funds and technical support broaden the villagers' path to prosperity

Wei Zeyang, director of the Changshui Power Supply Station of the Luoning County Power Supply Company, is the first deputy secretary stationed in Jiagou Village for poverty alleviation. According to him, although Jiagou Village is located in a remote area, it has relatively much arable land per capita and is suitable for planting cash crops such as tobacco and walnuts. At present, the village has more than 100 mu of walnuts and nearly 700 mu of tobacco. Many villagers have embarked on the path to prosperity by planting these cash crops.

Currently it is the season of “picking tobacco and curing tobacco,” and busy villagers can be seen everywhere in the village. At the same time, Jiagou Village's foundational advantage in planting cash crops such as tobacco and walnuts also provided ideas for the Luoning County Power Supply Company's assistance work, namely, through funds and technical support, helping villagers broaden the path to prosperity through planting crops such as tobacco and walnuts. Since April last year, the Luoning County Power Supply Company has invested 700,000 yuan to renovate 3 10 kV transformer districts and 7 km of 400 V lines in Jiagou Village, and 86 households had their meters replaced; invested more than 100,000 yuan to repair the tobacco curing lines of Jiagou Village villagers; and invested more than 7,000 yuan to support 30 poor households in purchasing corn seeds for corn planting.

In addition, in order to strengthen villagers' enthusiasm for planting walnuts and truly help poor households, employees of the Luoning County Power Supply Company spontaneously purchased walnuts from poor households at prices higher than the market price. Since walnuts came on the market this year, they have purchased more than 2,100 jin of walnuts from poor households, worth more than 14,000 yuan.

Cultural benefits for the people advance in step, helping villagers pull out the “roots of poverty” ideologically

In order to facilitate villagers' production and daily life, this year the Luoning County Power Supply Company actively sought funds with relevant county departments to widen the village's 3 km street and level the village committee activity site.

In addition to improving villagers' quality of life through hardware investment, the Luoning County Power Supply Company also carries out poverty alleviation in Jiagou Village ideologically and culturally, carrying out many practical projects benefiting the people, including screening the special film "Journey Across Rivers and Seas (Episode 185)," so that villagers can raise their ideological understanding in building a village with distinctive features; carrying out the safe electricity use “three enters” activity, from explaining safe electricity use knowledge to distributing safe common-sense booklets, raising villagers' awareness of safe electricity use; and carrying out student donation activities, giving schoolbags, study notebooks, pencil cases, and other school supplies to children in the village, while also donating 5 filing cabinets, more than 300 books of various kinds, and so on.

It is understood that in the next step, the Luoning County Power Supply Company will, in conjunction with the “two studies and one action” study and education activity, assist the Jiagou Village committee in strengthening organizational construction, give play to the exemplary vanguard role of Party members, and drive the masses to develop industries. At the same time, it will start with photovoltaic power generation projects and specialty breeding and planting projects, strive to introduce projects, steadily advance poor households' early escape from poverty, and promote increased income for all villagers.
