Fruit hitches a ride on e-commerce and sells like hotcakes

"Launching e-commerce services has really been great. I never expected that just trying out online fruit sales this autumn would bring in more than 20,000 yuan in sales revenue." On September 1, Zhang Xin, the e-commerce manager of Lian'ao Village, Guangji Township, Dongpo District, Meishan City, said that the township's long-standing neglect of branded fruit sales is now changing rapidly along with the building of the e-commerce service platform.

Guangji Township is the largest fruit base township in Dongpo District. The township's total planting area of fruits such as mandarin hybrids and peaches reaches more than 55,000 mu, and total annual fruit output reaches more than 85,000 tonnes. However, influenced by traditional ways of thinking, many fruit growers hold the mindset of "sit and wait for buyers to come, and once it's sold, that's the end of it" when selling fruit, without putting thought or effort into branding. As a result, fruit sales channels are not smooth, good fruit cannot fetch a good price, and the output efficiency of fruit is affected.

In response to the problem of fruit sales lacking branding, since the beginning of this year the township, following the new approach of upgrading the fruit industry, has focused its efforts on raising the fruit brand on building an e-commerce platform. Combining going out to visit and learn from others with inviting people in to give guidance, it has successively invited experts from the Shanghai Urban Planning Research Institute and the head of "Sichuan Shushang", who has rich experience in e-commerce operations within the province, and other experts to visit the township for on-site inspections.

Afterwards, the township's Taoyuan Guangji WeChat public account was quickly launched, and the first e-commerce service station was also built at the Yachi Taohua Mountain square. The township's Tianfu Shenglin Fruit Industry Specialized Cooperative also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with an online sales company, using the cooperative's cold storage as the company's operations transfer station to expand market space in an all-round way and increase the fruit brand effect. At the same time, the township also registered fruit brands such as "Guangji Nectarine" and "Lanpo", established and expanded industrial demonstration parks and family farms, and used points to drive broader development of brand demonstration planting, so as to take a new path in fruit industry development of building brands, expanding markets and seeking benefits.

It is understood that the township is currently taking the building of the e-commerce service platform as an opportunity to expand the online sales share of autumn fruits and make quality fruit brands widely known. "Relying on e-commerce for online sales saves time and effort, and the fruit can also sell at a good price, which makes my fruit growing more profitable," said Zuo Yongming, a fruit grower in Yachi Village, Guangji Township.
