Food-saving education requires a multi-pronged approach to ensure implementation
According to media reports, in order to help primary and secondary school students better carry forward the traditional virtue of diligence and thrift of the Chinese nation, and to take the compulsory life course of cultivating virtue through thrift, the Ministry of Education recently issued a notice requiring all primary and secondary schools to effectively carry out food-saving education and put an end to the waste that still exists in a small number of schools.
"Food is the first necessity of the people, and grain is the first necessity of food." Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, our country has fed nearly 1.4 billion people with only about 7% of the world's cultivated land, achieving results that have attracted worldwide attention. But at the same time, we must also clearly see one fact: the value of grain wasted at the dining table in our country each year is as high as 200 billion yuan, equivalent to one year's rations for 200 million people. The data is shocking and distressing. Loving grain and saving grain has reached a point where there is no time to delay.
In my view, carrying out food-saving education is itself a social system project. To achieve good results, it should be carried out simultaneously in all aspects: family, school and society.
First, food-saving education should start with parents. Parents are a mirror for their children. As parents, they should lead by example and set a good example. In addition, parents can also seize appropriate opportunities to take their children to the fields to participate in labor, letting them feel the hardship of farmers' production, and thereby cherishing grain even more.
Second, food-saving education should be carried out persistently. Relying on one or two special supervision sessions or concentrated education cannot fundamentally solve the problem, and it is easy to make food-saving education become a mere formality. Schools should incorporate food-saving education into the moral education curriculum system, carry out food-saving education in ordinary times, and repeatedly educate students. Through practical activities, let the concept of saving grain enter the mind and heart and be put into action.
Third, food-saving education should focus on creating a strong social atmosphere. Food-saving action is not only an individual act, but also a collective social action. It requires everyone to start from themselves, from now, and from the smallest details. Therefore, the whole society should establish the awareness of "saving grain" and guide people to establish a strong social atmosphere of "saving grain is glorious; wasting grain is shameful," thereby enhancing the consciousness of loving grain and saving grain.
