Pesticide waste urgently needs proper disposal

At present, the busy "three summer" agricultural period is drawing to a close, and many farmers are still very careless about pesticide waste, which can easily cause environmental pollution and pesticide safety accidents. Pesticide waste should be properly disposed of to ensure the safety of agricultural production.

Recently, the "three summer" work has been nearing its end. After the wheat harvest, farmers take advantage of the soil moisture to spray herbicides in the fields. Corn needs pesticide spraying to promptly prevent and control pests and diseases. However, used pesticide bottles are thrown away everywhere, all over the fields, beside wells and along roadsides. The environmental impact brought by pesticide waste has gradually become a major hidden danger threatening ecological security.

On the one hand, waste made of materials such as plastic and aluminum foil still needs a hundred years to degrade, and broken glass packaging may also cut people; on the other hand, the chemical agents remaining in the packaging, such as powders, granules and emulsifiable concentrates, will cause diffuse pollution to soil and water sources, continuously endangering the safety of humans and livestock and the safety of agricultural products.

If pesticides in the human body exceed the maximum tolerance limit of a normal person, it will lead to disorders and imbalances in the physiological functions of a normal person, causing pathological changes and poisoning hazards. For example, effects on human reproductive function can also cause infertility and deformity in later generations.

Pesticide packaging waste, mainly made of materials such as glass and plastic, has now become an important source of solid waste pollution affecting China's rural environment. For example, the commonly used PE bottles mostly contain adhesives; remaining in the soil for a long time, they will cause serious chemical pollution of the soil, form a barrier layer in the soil, reduce soil quality, and affect the growth and expansion of plant roots. During cultivation, they will affect the working quality of agricultural machinery and tools, and after entering water bodies, they can easily cause ditch blockage and pollute surface water and groundwater.

For this reason, the broad masses of farmers are called upon not to casually discard used pesticide waste in places where people and livestock frequent, so as to prevent children and livestock from coming into contact with it and causing unnecessary economic losses and threats to life and property.

Pesticide waste is a major important cause of pesticide safety accidents, and attention to pesticide waste disposal work must be increased to ensure the proper disposal of pesticide waste.
