Banning straw burning is an arduous task with a long road ahead.

Recently, there was an article titled: "Banning Straw Burning: A New Pain Point in Cadre-Masses Relations, Funerals Banned from Burning Paper Money." The article stated: Xuchang County stipulated that, to prevent satellite monitoring from mistaking it for straw burning, all funeral activities are prohibited from burning paper money in the open air. A villager from Chencao Township, Xuchang County, said: "A few days ago an elderly person in the village passed away, and when the funeral procession went to bury them, the township and village cadres and a fire truck followed the whole way, not allowing paper to be burned." (Xinhuanet, June 29, 2016)

Why does such a phenomenon occur? That is because some places have now issued relevant regulations: if even one instance of smoke is detected, the relevant leaders must bear responsibility, so all are required to guard every point strictly and do a good job of banning straw burning. And the personnel below, in order to do this work well, magnified the problem, to the point where even burning paper for the deceased was not allowed.

Doing a good job of banning straw burning is a good thing that benefits the country and the people. We citizens should all give it our support and understanding, cooperate well with the work of the relevant local government departments, and start with ourselves in all things; moreover, in daily life, if we find others burning straw, we can also take the initiative to stop them promptly, rather than adopting an attitude of "it's none of my business, so I'll stand aloof." I think that in this way, the ban on straw burning will imperceptibly take root in people's hearts, and in the end everyone will support it and everyone will benefit.

But when it comes to doing this work well, if it develops to the point where burning paper is not even allowed when an elderly person passes away, is that not making a mountain out of a molehill, and is it not a bit too callous? When an elder in the family passes away, the family members are already grieving. At such a time, as a cadre, one does not think of how to offer some comfort, but instead, for the sake of one's own political achievements, forbids the deceased's family members from burning paper. Just imagine, if our cadres far and wide all acted like those in Xuchang County, could the work of banning straw burning be done well?

How to do a good job of banning straw burning is a key focus and a major difficulty in the work of the relevant government departments at present. In the process of collection and storage, straw faces a series of difficulties such as a concentrated time frame, difficulty in storage, and a low utilization rate, and to this day there is still no effective solution to these problems, which makes the carrying out of this work arduous at every step.

Doing a good job of banning straw burning is a basic national policy that must be pursued persistently, and the task is arduous with a long road ahead.
