White Dew Approaches Mid-Autumn Festival, Hualien Station Urges Farmers to Strengthen Field Management
The annual pomelo harvest period falls around the solar term "White Dew," and this year's White Dew is only one week away from the Mid-Autumn Festival. To strengthen Wendan pomelo production and sales, the Hualien Station this year not only promotes field management so that Wendan pomelos can be harvested earlier and sold, but also promotes various processed Wendan pomelo products, and the sparkling drink is one of the results.
Hualien Station secretary Syuan Daping stated that after Wendan pomelo trees bloom, only some of the flowers will develop into fruit, but too many flowers and fruit will cause the nutrients of the fruit to be spread thin, so flower thinning must be strengthened. As for how to use the flowers after thinning, the Hualien Station developed the sparkling drink in the hope that farmers could also benefit.
Not Just the Sparkling Drink: Hualien Station Vigorously Promotes Organic Farming with Success
In addition to the limited-redemption Pomelo Flower White Jade Sparkling Drink at the open day, this year also marks the Hualien Station's 80th anniversary, so it also exhibits the Hualien Station's 80-year trajectory of growth, from the early pursuit of abundant crop yields to the promotion of organic agriculture. To date, the organic cultivation area in counties and cities under its jurisdiction, such as Yilan and Hualien, has reached 2,654.35 hectares, and the organic rice area has reached 1,555.37 hectares, accounting for more than half of the national organic rice area.
Hualien Station director Du Lihua stated that in addition to exhibiting the Hualien Station's 80-year trajectory, it also displays achievements including stress-resistant varieties, the promotion of organic farming, and the prototyping center, as well as providing teaching materials related to food and agriculture education, hoping that the public will come to the Hualien Station on the 20th for a small educational and entertaining trip.
