Four more imported pork ports approved for opening by the state
The Mid-Autumn Festival has passed, and the expected rise in pig prices did not arrive as promised. Instead, news has recently emerged that has upset pig farmers: within just a few days, several more pork import ports passed acceptance inspections by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. Combined with the explosive growth in imported pork volumes this year, pig farmers cannot help but feel more worried about future pig price trends. In fact, as early as May 2015, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued an announcement to reform the regulatory model under which all imported meat had to undergo inspection, testing and quarantine at coastal and border ports, support the orderly construction of designated ports and inspection sites for imported meat in inland areas, and allow imported meat to be transported directly in its original container, with original seals and original certificates to designated inland ports/inspection sites for inspection and quarantine, thereby enhancing and expanding the functions of inland ports, saving costs and facilitating customs clearance.
First, let us look at which import ports passed the acceptance inspections:
On September 8, news came from the Taicang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau in Jiangsu that Taicang Port passed acceptance inspection by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, becoming the 5th designated port for imported meat in Jiangsu. This was also the first designated port for imported meat nationwide to pass review since the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued Announcement No. 64.
On September 9, the designated port for imported meat at the Suzhou High-tech Zone Comprehensive Bonded Zone underwent review and acceptance. The acceptance team spoke highly of the designated port and unanimously agreed to recommend it to the General Administration for approval.
Also on September 9, reporters learned from the Shandong Weihai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that Weihai Port officially obtained approval from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine to become a designated port for imported meat. This marks that starting today, imported meat can be shipped directly from overseas to Weihai Port, and residents can buy cheaper, fresher imported meat products nearby.
According to a report by Heilongjiang Daily, recently, the Harbin Dazhuangyuan designated inspection site for imported meat obtained approval from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, becoming the first inland designated inspection site for imported meat in the three northeastern provinces. After the site is put into use, enterprises in the province can have imported meat delivered directly within the province, without needing to open containers at ports elsewhere to handle relevant import approvals.
Since then, multiple provinces and localities have been approved to build designated meat ports and inspection sites, and this year, these designated meat ports approved for construction in the earlier phase will successively complete construction and enter the stage of acceptance and official operation. This means that in the future, imported meat will enter the Chinese market more quickly and conveniently, further encouraging relevant domestic enterprises to increase imports, and the impact on the domestic market and the development of the entire industry will also further increase.
According to incomplete statistics, up to now, the number of domestic imported pork ports has reached 50.
