Summit grape Meirenzi variety achieves another magnificent transformation
The G20 Summit brought Xiaoshan onto the world stage, and the Linpu elements at the summit were also eye-catching, with Meirenzi grapes being one of them. After being showcased at the summit, Shen Yuefang, the "helmswoman" of Linpu Meirenzi grapes, recently developed another ingenious method, trying a leading technology in the province to push grape quality up another level.
Looking back on how she and her husband put down roots in grape growing, they have been working the land for 15 years. Hangzhou Famous Trademark, Zhejiang Famous Brand Product, Gold Award Fruit at the Provincial Agricultural Expo, National Gold Award for Quality Grapes... Over these 15 years, Shen Yuefang led Meirenzi grapes to win many major awards. In April this year, Hangzhou began selecting fruit supply points for the G20 Summit, and two "model" varieties of Meirenzi, Zuijinxiang and Yinhong, entered the dinner fruit menu of the G20 Summit. The high temperatures before the summit put Meirenzi grapes under enormous pressure. Shen Yuefang avoided the heat and got up every day from midnight to 4 a.m. to drip water and cool the plants, and only then were high-quality grapes presented at the summit, lighting up the "Linpu element." Recently, she received a letter of thanks from the district agriculture bureau, which gave a thumbs-up to Meirenzi's contribution to the summit.
Some people say that with such great achievements already, Meirenzi grapes are already the leader in Xiaoshan, and all she needs to do is maintain it. But Shen Yuefang does not think the summit is the endpoint. This "planting expert" has come up with new ideas again. "The usual thinking is to plant more and sell more, so growers can earn more. At Meirenzi, that does not work." Shen Yuefang said with a smile that what she values is quality. In recent years, as Linpu Meirenzi grapes have become more and more famous, this principle has become more and more "ironclad." In the past few months, the orchard has invited Wang Shifu, a fruit expert from the district agriculture bureau, to be stationed on site to help Meirenzi transform and upgrade. Walking through the Meirenzi orchard, one does not see densely packed grape vines. Wang Shifu told reporters that Meirenzi is currently taking the path of technological innovation. "On the market now, more than 100 grape plants are planted per mu. We now plant 20 per mu, and may even reduce it to 6." This is the province's leading root-restriction cultivation technology. Although the number of plants is small, the trellis surface can still cover 70%, so yield will not decrease. With high-quality varieties such as Zuijinxiang, Yinhong, and Shine Muscat as the main focus, it can also ensure that fertilizer does not leach away.
Meirenzi has won countless awards. Shen Yuefang's plantation is currently a purely grape orchard, but next, the orchard will move toward becoming a comprehensive leisure operation. "Barring accidents, the elimination and upgrading will be completed the year after next." Shen Yuefang said that in recent years the focus has been on breeding, with the survival of the fittest, not seeking high yield but rather premium quality, and taking the gift-oriented route. At the same time, the intention is also to build an agricultural ecosystem that integrates planting, breeding, and leisure.
