Du Naihe: Wild Duck Farming Brings New Wealth

As an effective way to increase production and income, farming is increasingly favored by farmers. Du Naihe, a farmer from Qilihai Town, Ninghe District, introduced mallard ducks for specialty farming and found a new path to prosperity.

At seven in the morning, at the wild duck farm of Tianjin Yuncui Aquatic Products Co., Ltd. in Ninghe District, company head Du Naihe is driving the ducks from the shore into a clear water pond. The fish stocked in this clear water pond are there specifically for the wild ducks to swim and play. Du Naihe says the company uses pen-style rearing, which has many advantages. During the farming process, he also strictly controls the two key links of scientific feeding and selective breeding of good stock, which is why the farming scale has gradually expanded. All of this farming experience he figured out through self-study and looking up information online. Du Naihe says: "Part of this breed was introduced from Beijing, and part from Baiyangdian. Basically wild ducks are like this too, similar in nature to wild geese. Chicks come in in spring, they grow up and can fly by autumn, and winter is convenient for overwintering. By next year they also start laying eggs. Once you have the nutrition comprehensively managed, they gain weight, grow feathers, and grow bones and calcium-type things. Generally it's calcium, phosphorus, various trace elements, protein and so on that all need to be a bit more complete, until after two months. After that the feed protein is lowered, and more coarse feed is supplemented. Add a bit of duckweed, vegetables, and they eat it along with the rest."

There is another key step in farming wild ducks, which is strictly doing disease prevention work. Du Naihe says he has never dared to be careless in this work; he is meticulous. "First, during the early chick stage, disease prevention must be done. This is a must. Not just for duck plague, avian influenza, all these disease prevention measures must be done regularly. Also, in feed ratios and nutritional content, it must be made more complete. After new ducklings arrive, they absolutely must be isolated from other duck areas, and only mixed together once confirmed safe, otherwise it prevents bringing in other viruses and such."

Although Du Naihe's wild duck farm has already begun to take shape, he is not satisfied. He says the next step will be to further enrich the duck breeds, gradually develop the duck farm into a local supply base, form a specialty industry, and drive local farmers to get rich together.
