Vegetable prices in Anshan, Liaoning continue to fall ahead of the Golden Week
“The National Day” Golden Week is getting closer and closer, but right now the prices in Anshan's “vegetable basket” are not showing any holiday effect. On the contrary, whether it is vegetables or the prices of meat and eggs, over the past week they have kept falling compared with the Mid-Autumn Festival period, and have even dropped back to the levels seen before the Mid-Autumn Festival.
According to data provided by the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, last week the prices of 20 vegetable varieties in our city fell by an average of 4.7% week-on-week compared with the previous week, while the average week-on-week decline for vegetables in the previous week was 1.31%. It is understood that, affected by autumn-crop vegetables gradually maturing and winter-storage autumn vegetables about to come onto the market in large quantities, starting from September 19, among the 20 monitored vegetable varieties, apart from 5 varieties such as hot peppers and carrots whose prices rose week-on-week compared with the previous week's average, the week-on-week prices of eggplant and celery were flat compared with the previous week, and the average prices of the remaining 13 vegetable varieties were all negative week-on-week compared with the previous week. Among them, spinach, Chinese cabbage and white radish were the three vegetables with the most obvious declines, with price drops of 21.94%, 18.08% and 13.03% respectively.
Not only did overall vegetable prices show a fairly obvious downward trend, pork prices were also falling. Taking pork (boneless hind leg meat, per 500 grams) as an example, last week the market price was 13.58 yuan, and before September 20 it had remained below 13.58 yuan, while on September 21 it rose to 13.83 yuan, up 1.84% from the previous day, and on September 22 it fell again to 13.42 yuan, returning to the price level before September 14, with the rise losing momentum.
At present the price of pork is 13.50 yuan. Although as the weather gradually turns cooler people's consumption of pork will increase, and combined with schools' canteens placing more pork orders, demand for pork has entered the traditional peak season and there is some room for prices to rise, because since last year pig prices have been running at a high level and affected by an increase in the number of live pigs sent to slaughter, the extent of the rise is limited. At the same time, egg prices have also been moving lower. Around this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, the price of eggs once rose to 4.5 yuan to 4.8 yuan per 500 grams, but starting from September 24 the price began to keep falling, and at present eggs per 500 grams have dropped to between 4.2 yuan and 4.3 yuan.
